The American actor Jerry Levy will play "Marx in Soho" in Groningen on Sunday June 24th.
Marx in Soho was written in 1999 by the radical historian Howard Zinn (author of: A People's History of the United States). The piece is a defence of the spirit of Marxism and an attack on consumerism and Stalinism.
Speaking about his motivation for writing the piece, Zinn explained:
"Karl and Jenny Marx had moved to London after he was expelled from country after country on the European continent. They lived in the grubby Soho district, and revolutionaries from all over Europe, arriving in London, trooped in and out of their home. That imagined scene — Marx at home, Marx with his wife, Jenny, with his daughter Eleanor — fascinated me."
