Do we know who burnt the tent? WE HAVE TO REACT! THIS FASCIST ACTIONS MUST BE CONFRONTED AND REPLIED IMMEDIATELY! Can someone give us more information about this incident?

HI everybody,

I just passed by the occupy camp. Some assholes burned the main tent in the morning to the ground (including our banner and everything that was inside)
I will anyhow print the posters and propose still to meet tonight at 9 pm at the camp.

We don't have information. We can't do anything about it and don't want to accuse anyone until the police find out something. We can react by not letting it get to us and just move forward.

The atmosphere at the was great today. A lot if people came to show their support for the cause, that's the best you can get I think. We should never indulge in violence (not in language, not in action). Ofcourse we hope the arsonist will be caught.

Thanks Jelle. I did not mean to do something violent at least now. I said that at least an announcement to the local socity of Groningen is more than necessary.

I agree. In what way would you like to propose a statement outside the (objective) information already given?

I think that we should denounce this action and to say that we will protect the occupy and we will not continue. That these actions cannot scare us etc.

Thanks. I made a statement (in Dutch) and I'm discussing it now with the others. I'm submitting it today.

I'll try to translate it in English too.

Message:

Maandagochtend, 7 mei, is er in alle vroegte een grote tent bij Occupy Groningen in de brand gestoken. Er is veel natuur- en materiële schade. We betreuren deze gebeurtenis enorm. De brandstichting is een aanslag in de publieke ruimte, op ons en op de veilige vrijheid van demonstratie.

De recherche en politie hebben onderzoek gedaan en de feiten op een rijtje gezet. Verscheidene media hebben bericht over de brand en de feiten er omtrent. Om eventuele onduidelijkheden uit te sluiten, sommen we hier de feiten nogmaals op:

* De brand ontstond volgens de brandweer tussen 4 uur en kwart voor vijf  's ochtends.

* Er sliep een Occupy'er in een andere tent, vlak bij de brand. Hij is door alle ellende heen geslapen.

* De brandweer was er om 4.50 u en had het vuur snel onder controle

* De hevigheid van de brand heeft de grote tent met al z'n inhoud in de as gelegd. Ook drie bomen die er omheen stonden zijn zwaar beschadigd.

* De recherche was er rond 12.00 u en heeft kort onderzoek gedaan.

* De politie was er rond 15.00 u en heeft nieuwe feiten geconstateerd zoals de bloembakken die waren omgegooid, de vlag die naar beneden is gehaald en gestolen en de opzettelijk gemaakte brandsporen op een andere tent er tegenover.

* Er is veel materiële schade: banken, geluidsapparatuur, internetapparatuur, podiumdelen, spandoeken en de tent zelf zijn allemaal verloren gegaan.

 

We willen iedereen bedanken voor alle steun en bemoedigende opmerkingen de afgelopen dagen. We zijn niet boos, maar erg teleurgesteld dat dit zover heeft moeten komen.

We bezinnen ons op de toekomst.

Great! we can sign it as Occupy Groningen and Real Democracy Groningen and distribute it in 12th May. I am looking forward for the english translation!
