Occupied News
Last
Thursday, Occupy LA brought chalk to the city's Art
Walk to spread the message of Occupy LA to those
passing by. The LAPD displayed
violent repression towards those activists, firing
rubber bullets and tear gas into the group of people
decorating the Art Walk with sidewalk chalk. 17
people were arrested and dozens were injured from
the rubber bullets. In an act of solidarity for
Occupy LA and to stand against the violent
repression of the police, a group of activists took
chalk around the city Saturday night, chalkupy-ing
ribfest and Taste of Chicago entrances, as well as
sidewalk entrances to red line stops. The next
morning, visitors to the city food festivals were
greeted with messages of peace from Occupy Chicago.
July
2nd was the arraignment for three of the NATO5
members. Jacob, Brent, and Jay all plead not gulity
to the trumped up charges they are being held on.
Occupy Chicago packed the gallery in support of the
NATO3, wearing yellow in an act of solidarity.
Outside the courthouse, a dozen people gathered and
had a noise demonstration in support of the five,
followed by a speak out against the current prison
system. That afternoon people marched to the State's
Attorney's Office where three activists occupied
Anita Alverez's office, demanding the charges be
dropped against the NATO5. Instead of being able to
meet with Alverez, a publically elected official,
the three activists were arrested.
