Occupy Vancouver Organizers [Branch Out] [Extend Reach] to Address both Tent City and Global Socio-Economic Reform
November 14, 2011, Vancouver, BC -- In response to public perception of the Occupy Vancouver tent city and with a desire to bring the primary focus of Occupy Vancouver back to global socio-economic reform, a group of Occupy Vancouver organizers are working together to restructure the local movement.
Residents of tent city and other Occupy Vancouver supporters are working to bring the Art Gallery site up to fire-safety code in the face of a possible court injunction to remove all tents and structures. Occupy Vancouver organizers are working to learn from mistakes made at the Vancouver Art Gallery location, create a positive model for Occupy demonstrations, and integrate the Art Gallery site into a broader vision of not only Occupy Vancouver, but Occupy Everywhere.
"The Art Gallery site has a lot of successes and failures and we aim to address them," says Ben Selinger, an organizer responsible for IT infrastructure. "We're working closely with Occupy Vancouver to address their current issues but ultimately we're also building something from the ground up and top down to provide other local Occupy movements the templates and tools they need to hit the ground running without running into all the issues Occupy Vancouver has experienced."
**we need another paragraph here. but i need lunch.**
Occupy Vancouver, in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and the Global Occupy Movement, has come together to transform the unequal and growing disparity in the distribution of power and wealth in our city and around the world. We seek socio-economic reform in the name of economic security, genuine equality, and the protection of the environment for all.
