Three folks resisted the tide of holiday business to attend the second
meeting at Chia's house, for a very mellow and hopeful meeting. We
talked about building the movement, building community, how our movement
relates to other more specific change projects (350.org for example),
how our working groups might relate to the same groups in other Occupy
groups, and the role the Occupy community might play in the entire
panoply of change efforts.
We know the 1% is occupied with building their fortifications and
offensive projects, and pushing back against us (the 99%). We know that
what we have is not money, but people. We know that the 1% actively
strives to divide us, to keep us confused and disorganized, and feeling
disempowered. We know that what we have is each other.
At this second meeting we wondered if our movement isn't the community
which from which all of the change efforts spring. Tell me if this
doesn't sound true: We, the 99%, are the people of the source community
of all change, and our job, as the primal gathering of 99%ers, is to
empower each other, to build a community of empowered 99%ers, to build
that network which can be mobilized for the good of humanity, life and
the planet.
We were only three people, so as Strategy WG we decided to take action -
we're calling for a working party (date, time and place TBA). Pot luck,
beverages, and great questions to chew on. Good idea?
