I hope Gregg doesn't mind, I've pasted in most of his comments. (And
added mine)

Topic: If you read two Message Statements, and didn't know which
was written by an individual and which was written by a group, and
agreed
that the one written by an individual was better: would you take that
opinion back when you realized that you'd chosen the less politically
correct, but better written document?"

Aria; the point of this question was to ask: Why do you need to know
the race of the person who wrote the Message Statement?

Gregg: This reasoning seems to be about language and not inclusivity.
We are not
conducting a writing contest..finds the emphasis on writing offensive.

Aria: the Message Statement needs to be well written to gather
adherents. The GA will decide which is the better statement.

Gregg: And why the emphasis on deadlines?

Aria: To prevent the number of submissions from overwhelming (and
freezing to death) the people facilitating the process. A voice
against a deadline should come from someone volunteering to camp out
for the winter.

Gregg: Where's the emphasis on getting more voices to participate, not
just those of the passionate people who are in camp? I advocate for a
more thoughtful inclusive approach.

Aria: The processes are not mutually exclusive. Ideas can compile a
document based on everyone's input and also present blinded documents
written by individuals, all preferably in a similar format, with an
additional "data" document that includes absolutely everything.

I'm a little confused by this explanation. It sounds like there is no
place in this process for individual voices who do not choose to be
boiled down to the lowest common denominator?? I do understand now
that it is a two tier process A. Gathering & tagging B. The ga
approved boiling down by four chefs. Can I get some feed back on my
idea of providing a formula etc for part A. As described in "feedback
on gathering ideas" thread? Thanks.

I think the idea that drafts are necessarily written by individuals or
perhaps small groups is obvious. I do think there is a place in this
process for essay contests, but it will be a contest of who can most
powerfully convey the agreed upon concerns and values of the group.
Its the process of gathering ideas, of analyzing those ideas and
editing and combining the individually written drafts where it is
essential that we strive to be inclusive. That said, certain steps
will happen mostly in this working group, comprised of the people who
most want to be involved in this process. The tagging, drafting, and
combining steps can be dome by this group primarily as long as others
always feel welcome to join and contribute. The gathering of ideas and
the final editing process are the steps where we must reach out to be
as inclusive as possible.
