background on Monsanto: http://www.organicconsumers.org/monsanto/index.cfm
Monsanto is responsible for 50 Superfund pollution sites.
For
the
11th year in a row, Monsanto was judged one of the
most hated
companies in the world.
Monsanto
public relations people are
trained in intimidation.
Crop
yield is not the problem with our
food supply. Distribution and poverty is the
problem. GMOs tend to
reduce yield.

Obama specifically praised Vilsack's support of
biotechnology, which has led the Iowan to back genetically
modified
food products, and that 'Vilsack, like Obama, supports ethanol,
and
frankly anyone who isn't on the dole of some agribusiness or other
can see that ethanol is an absurd idea. In fact, it's hard to find
a
worse political idea, and that's saying a lot.' In short:
progressives, you've been sold out again, as Andrew Leonard writes
in
Salon (December 17): http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/green/detail?&entry_id=33905

May 2008, Monsanto's
Harvest of
Fear ... Monsanto already
dominates America's food chain with its genetically modified
seeds. Now it has targeted milk production. Just as frightening as
the corporation's tactics 'ruthless legal battles against small
farmers' is its decades-long history of toxic contamination. by Donald
L. Barlett and James B. Steele
And some people are winning against Monsanto (sacred mountain, uses .org, claims it's corporate mission is sustainability!!!!)
More about Occupy Monsanto and the Genetic Crimes Unite, GCU: Press release for the 60+ occupy Monsanto actions from S17-s24 *<http://occupy-monsanto.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Occupy_Monsanto_PR_8_27.pdf> The protests will vary in size and nature but are unified in pushing back GMO food into the lab from which it came. An interactive map with times, dates and locations of the 60+ protests can be found at * http://occupy-monsanto.com/genetic-crimes-unit/
The
GCU opposes Monsanto’s bid to increase spraying of
crops with toxic
weed killers like 2,4 D (the main ingredient in Agent
Orange) and
dicambia, the continued genetic contamination of the
organic food
supply, and other risks associated with genetically
modified
organisms (GMOs).
In
the name of Wall Street profits, chemical corporations
such as
Monsanto genetically engineer crops to withstand high
doses of their
herbicides and pesticides that contaminate our food
and water, and
have not been proven safe. We deserve to know what we
are eating.
Europe, Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, and
other
industrialized nations require the labeling of GMOs so
that citizens
can make informed choices. Other nations like Peru and
France have
even banned GMO crops.
But thanks to companies like Monsanto, US
consumers are denied the right to know if their food
is
GMO.Monsanto
pays
Congress vast sums of money under the guise of
lobbying efforts
to keep GMO labels off their patented Frankenfood
products. Our
Congress is contaminated with GMOs and toxic
chemicals, and the lack
of rational, responsible labeling policy threatens our
health and the
health of the planet.

NOFA/Mass
maintains that Genetically Modified Organisms are a major
threat to
the organic farming community, pose a serious health danger to
consumers and animals, can have an enormous detrimental impact
on
plant biodiversity, promote a monopoly in the seed industry,
and can
increase pesticide use nationwide. "GMOs do not diminish when
released into the environment as they are an alteration made
to a
living organism that can reproduce. Even small amounts of GMO
contamination will increase over time after they are released
into
our agriculture and environment," explained Jack Kittredge,
NOFA/Mass Policy Director, Organic Farmer and Editor of The
Natural Farmer,
NOFA's quarterly news
magazine.
