Hello OccupyBkers,

If you have not yet joined occupybk.org, it's a really good idea that you do so.

Then, join a group.
Under Forum you can contact with one another, and change your email notifications the same way that you do with googlegroups.
All meeting times can be posted on the website as well as minutes, files, etc. AND THE BEST PART YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF!

Let's stop using googlegroups, be transparent and easily accessible.

Please try to encourage the people you've been working with to do the same if you agree.

Eliana

P.S. If anyone needs a tutorial, I am sure that Todd, cc'd here can either help you out or arrange one.

--------------------------
Dear Neighbors & Friends in Brooklyn,

We've just launched occupybk.org.  Without an occupation site, active participants in Occupy Brooklyn have found it difficult to share and post minutes, fliers, and meeting information.  They've had concerns about a designated online space for conversation.  Likewise, newer participants have had no dependable place to plug in to the movement, see what's being planned, or know what's happened already.  The site doesn't solve all of those problems just yet, but we think this is a solid start and moves us in the right direction.

There are two major ways to use the site right now: 1) to organize and communicate as working groups, and 2) to spread the word about events.  Viewing these materials is open to all.  Creating content on the site in many cases will require creating an account and logging in.

Groups
Using the contact list kept by Leo, we've set up a space for each existing working group.  Each space has a tab for contact information, file sharing, events, member listings, etc.  Once you join a working group page, you can also select from a variety of email update options.  Ideally, working groups can move all of their activities to these pages, and email updates can be more effectively managed than they have been through Google Groups.

There are three types of group membership: member, moderator, admin.  We suggest that each working group designate 1-3 people to serve as administrators and have them contact the IWG at obkin...@gmail.com.  Admins will be able to manage group membership and make technical adjustments to the various parts of the group's page.  Those that have been serving as WG email list coordinators might be good to start.  Admins can designate moderators, who are able to create events for the group.  All membership types can post and download files, post updates, etc.

Events
The website also provides a way to create and organize events.  At this stage in the launch, individuals cannot create events unless they have joined a workinggroup page and have been named a moderator of that group. This may change.  For now, though, moderators can go to the events tab on their respective workinggroup page and create events that will appear in the general calendar on the site.  We highly encourage you to post working group meetings in this way.  All non-working group events, like solidarity, neighborhood or OWS events, should be submitted to the IWG at obkin...@gmail.com.

Other
There are a lot of remaining kinks to fix and site management policies we're considering, and we know you'll have questions.  There is currently no forum for open discussion, for example, but we've got something in the works.  The system is more controlled than we'd like at the moment, and we will be doing our best to open it up to the group.  We're brainstorming how to handle a variety of requests and the implications for inclusion, horizontalism, and more.  In the meantime, we will do our best to provide regular and fully-transparent updates on the website about our progress and decisions.  If you come across a site-related bug, need a question answered, or have a suggestion, please do not email us.  Instead, post a message in this forum.

Thank you!

TB & JR from the Internet Working Group

Janelle, that's fantastic news, I'm glad it worked out! I'd be happy to be a liaison along with whomever else wishes to join.

In the broader sense, this is a project for the Location Working Group, so if you are not already a member and want to participate in working on location and scheduling concerns, please sign up here: http://groups.google.com/group/bkga-location

Janelle, I just invited you to the Location Working Group. Please let that list know when you/UFT would like to meet and we'll try to get it scheduled.

There are a lot of meetings tomorrow, a GA Wednesday and a huge day of action on Thursday, so most people probably won't be available until after then.

Thanks for reaching out for us!
