Hey gang,
I've been out of the loop a bit on the Occupy Brooklyn tip, but I
wanted to express my concern about a "March to Evict Bloomberg".
My overall critique of OWS is that it's largely running off the
momentum of a series of tactics, without a clear strategy in
place. It's don't really expect a coherent strategy to develop
from the national work that was centered in Zucotti given the
diffuse nature of the protests and the style of participatory
democracy we're working with. But I think our work in Brooklyn
should be thought out in more detail: what's the point of the
protest? what are we trying to shift (or better yet WIN)? what
points of leverage are we trying to exploit? what existing
struggles can we support in a way that respects the leadership of
those most directly impacted? how does the outcome of an action
leave us institutionally more powerful?
Just being mad at Bloomberg and the heavy hand he's played in
Brooklyn development doesn't get us very far, IMHO.
Alternately, I think foreclosure work, home occupations, and
liberating unused spaces to serve as organizing hubs is likely a
better use of our limited resources in the direct action group
(there's an O4O meeting Monday night to plan some of this out and
work on the Dec. 6th day of action).
onward.
