CONSEQUENCES OF  3-STRIKES LAW IN MASSACHUSETTS:

- Will cost the State of Massachusetts: Between $75-125 Million Annually
- Parole eligibility would increase from 15 to 25 years
- Mandatory post-release supervision will be imposed on all who have finished or wrapped up their sentence
- Mandatory post-release supervision will appear on former prisoner  record together with CORI
- High rate of recidivism, revolving door to more incarceration-No Rehabilitation
- Will lead to more overcrowding in Massachusetts prison: currently suffering from overcrowding: Over 11,506 inmates, functioning at a 144% over capacity
- More incarceration of Minorities: Blacks are 6.6% of MA  population but approx. 29% of those incarcerated

GENERAL INCARCERATION FACTS:

A Black man has 1 in 3 (32%) chance of imprisonment
A Latino man 1 in 6 (17%) chance of imprisonment
A White man has 1 in 17 (5.9%) chance of imprisonment

Hispanics are  16% of total U.S. population but 21% of those incarcerated in 2011
Blacks are 13% of total U.S. population but over 40% of those incarcerated in 2011
