to Occupy the Econ Dept
Here is a list of nine demands I would like to post on the door of the
department, in reformation style
1. Acknowledge that many basic assumptions, such as human nature,
rational behavior, are highly contested and disagreed upon.
2. Explore alternative models like cooperative, socialist modes of
production.
3. Make this knowledge accessible to the public rather than keep it
obscure and specialized for experts
4. Acknowledge Econ's role in society and responsibility to the
public.
5. Examine honestly the effects of the last 30 years of Neoliberal
policy
6. Incorporate criticism and divergent opinions into the curriculum
and make them mandatory.
7. Give voices to the underrepresented Economic underclass --
workers, those living in third world, the poor, etc.
8. Make service to democracy a priority, before professional loyalty.
9. Develop a code of ethics (already discussed among economists).
