#1 Some of the most restrictive and open-ended anti-assembly and anti-free speech laws ever passed in North America
#2 Laws that have impending eviction of the Occupy Charlotte encampment this Monday Jan. 30th.
WE ARE CALLING FOR A NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL EMERGENCY CALL-IN ON MONDAY JANUARY 30 BETWEEN 8AM AND 6PM EST (SCROLL DOWN TO CONTACT INFO BELOW)

WE ARE URGING YOU TO PASS ON THIS EMERGENCY ACTION REQUEST TO NOT ONLY TO YOUR OCCUPY CONSTITUENTS EVERY SUPPORTIVE ORGANIZATION IN YOUR AREA! PLEASE KEEP ALL PHONE CALLS AND EMAILS CIVIL, NON-VIOLENT, FOCUSED, AND CONSIDERATE OF OCCUPY CHARLOTTE AND ACTIVISM IN GENERAL!
The protest ordinances passed include the following restrictions supposedly in anticipation of the 2012 Democratic Party National Convention, however the vast majority of them do not have an expiration date:
· Outlawing the following items (thereby giving he police the power to arrest and search protestors with) backpacks, water bottles, scarves, low-powered sound amplification devices, markers (seriously!), coolers, gas masks, etc.
· Limiting the number of organizations who can protest at the DNC and instituting a Protest Lottery where winners pulled are still subject to permit denial by the City Manager. Also limiting the area of protest to designated "Free Speech Zones"
· Giving the Charlotte City Manager broad reaching powers to declare an “extraordinary event” and request national assistance.

Here are a few articles:
These laws don’t just affect Occupy. They don’t only affect Charlotte or North Carolina. The laws passed on Jan, 23 will be viewed by the powers that be as a precedent for ALL FUTURE POLITICAL ACTIVITY and will be watched very closely by every major metropolitan area. They will be used against the homeless, they will be used against striking workers, they will be used against YOU. We must not allow them to think that the world is not watching Charlotte, Homeland Security, and the upcoming Democratic National Convention!
