The American Rescue Plan that passed in March provided for a child tax credit for one year only. Already, it has been a huge success—with 3.3 million fewer households living in poverty. Researchers at Columbia University have said a permanent extension of the child tax credit could cut child poverty in half.
With Congress under a very short deadline to finalize the Build Back Better Act, this is the week where committees may decide whether to keep the child tax credit as permanent. We need a strong show of support today.
