Henry, John, Sam
Agenda for 11/23/11 GA-
Last minute Thanksgiving prep
Again, will be held at senior citizen’s center behind the unemployment
office. We should include a food drive for the food bank. If you would
like to volunteer, please note the following schedule for the dinner-
The Whitworth's start preparing food at 9am; 11-12 will deliveries to
people that can't make it; Food will be from 12-3pm. 3pm on is
cleanup.
The only thing they will really need help with is clean up after 3pm.
Lynn Whitworth supports us and will publicize that we were helpful and
community oriented.
We will continue to help and volunteer to help with the food bank and
aid for friends.
We will have visitors from Boise coming down to have Thanksgiving with
us.
Camp will be moved to Oak and Yellowstone
According to the state of Idaho, they issued a permit to the city to
only use the skating rink. The state has verbally given us the
permission to use the property and the power. They will not harass,
evict us, as long as we are not a nuisance or interfere with traffic.
We should move Saturday as it is our first open day (nothing
scheduled).
We do not have a legally binding document to move; it's somewhat
legally shaky, but low risk.
We have Blad's permission, but if the City Council did not want us
there, they could override the mayor.
Proposal to move Thursday night, after the Thanksgiving dinner.
Charlie is willing to leave his truck and trailer for us to load, and
then he will move us after family commitments.
Unanimous vote to pack tomorrow after the Whitworth dinner.
Flyers for the mic check at the rendezvous
Done, distributed across campus. We still need a script ready and
practiced for it. For 11/25/11 agenda.
Go over Black Friday Protests
We need signs made specific to the event. We have a few signs that are
applicable, but we need signs that are a bit more directly about Black
Friday. Please come by camp to make signs after your Thanksgiving
plans.
Motion to buy stencils and spray paint to make signs with camp money.
Charlie has stencils he's willing to let us use. Unanimous vote to
spend $20 on art supplies. Mike (new) also has stencils he is willing
to bring by camp.
Art Walk
There will be an art walk on first Friday of January. Co sponsored by
the Artists cooperative.
We need to get art ready to go.
The deadline will be on the 26th so that the city can put in the ads
that we are participating.
We do not have a location or time as of yet- this needs to be the next
big item that we work on after Thanksgiving.
We need to have a location set by next GA on 11/26/11 to have the art
walk. \
11/26/2011 Agenda-
Organize Art Walk- we need a venue and artists to sign up. We're
shooting for the 01/06/12.
Present Script for the mic check; Practice after GA.
Legal, if any items to discuss.
Camp related discussion for new location.
Occupied Christmas/Solstice.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11/20/11
In attendance: Muriel, Gretchen, Chris, Vonnie, Lewis, John, Henry,
Lewis (Lorax), Charlie, Tannis, Ray, Scott, Sam, Mike
Agenda Items for 11/20/11-
• Ongoing edits to the declaration- Gretchen sent
an email to the OccPoky email for consideration for edits regarding
the corruption of congress. As it is not a complete edit, but an
idea, it will be reviewed and presented in entirety.
ñ Script for the mic check, presented by Charlie-
We gather together in solidarity with Occupy movements around the
world to express out feelings of mass injustice.Corporations, banks,
Wall ST, the ultra-rich and influential are depriving us of our
democracy and social rights by influencing our governments to
represent their interests and agendas, not ours. Political and
economic systems in America and around the world are being manipulated
to increase the power and profits of the one percent at the expense of
the 99%. The values and rights of the people are being systematically
dismantled in the process. The wealth disparity grows. The working
class, the poor, the young and elderly bear the burden, but can bear
no more. Together we must formulate solutions to change the status quo
and restore justice and equality to our society; and to overcome
economic, social, and political tyranny wherever it exists. Our
future is our voice. We must not be silenced.
WE ARE THE 99% YOU ARE THE 99% STAND UP AND BE HEARD.
Mic Check Attendees: Muriel, Vonnie, Gretchen, Henry, Ray, Scott, Sam.
“Watch this space” flyers will be made for the Rendezvous, we will
also let the media know to watch the Rendezvous (specify the
Rendezvous as the location).
ñ Protest Black Friday at Walmart- The doors will not physically
open, as the store will not actually close. Electronics go on sale at
12am.
◦ There will be two protests- the first will be a
mic check at 11:30pm, inside the store. No signs inside the store, but
if you have a shirt that says something, or your pins, you can wear
it. Be aware that anything visible such as a shirt or pins will
enable security to identify you quickly. We will have very little time
for this mic check, 30 seconds or less. They will go for the leader
first; Everyone participating in this mic check will have a copy of
the script in the event the leader of the mic check gets shut down.
▪ People that will come for the late mic check-
Muriel, Chris, Vonnie, John, Henry, Tannis, Scott
◦ The second protest will be the entire day of
11/25. This protest will consist of sign holders on the sidewalk.
Possibly use the paging system?
▪ All day sign holders- Charlie, Scott, Henry,
John, Sam, Vonnie.
◦ We need new signs for this protest that are
specific- shop local (Think Local) signs have been proposed by Occupy
Teton Valley.
▪ Check with OccIF to borrow their corp. laminated
signs.
▪ The ISU craft shop has a lamination press- could
we possibly use that to make signs?
◦ We need to stop using Fed Ex for our flyers.
There is a local print shop on 4th ST and Carter that we will start
using.
ñ We need more volunteers to head projects
◦ Instead of waiting for one person to coordinate
events, or to make flyers, etc, take the initiative to research the
subject and bring it to a GA. We need more solid work done instead of
ideas presented.
ñ Occupy Thanksgiving
◦ We will be combining forces with the Whitworth's
annual Thanksgiving dinner, held at the Senior Citezen's Center. This
is a great way to expand our community outreach and connect with a
often forgotten portion of the community.
◦ Note we will not be taking signs to this dinner.
ñ Legal Report-
◦ It's been recognized that the government is
interested in our activities, both Occupy as a whole and OccPoky
specifically. As a reminder, if someone approaches the camp that is
not familiar, answer their questions in generalities. Don't be afraid
to tell the truth, but be aware. Try to record the conversation and/or
get a photo with them. Remember that this is a horizontal
organization, we do not have a leader or organizer.
Proposal to have a student outreach committee- Chris and Sam will head
this.
Agenda for 11/23/11 GA-
• Last minute Thanksgiving prep
• Flyers for the mic check at the rendezvous
• Go over Black Friday Protests
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11/18/11
In attendance: Charlie, Tannis, Scott, Dave, Mike, Ray, John, Henry,
Chris, Sam
Action Items for 11/18/11 GA-
Ongoing edits to Declaration
No edits presented; suggestion to condense the declaration to make it
easy to memorize.
Finalize a format/script for the mic check-
The declaration will be revised to a smaller version for the mic check
script. Scott and Charlie will present a condensed version on the
11/20/11 GA.
Scott will present flyers for the mic check.
Attendance will be posted online in a google doc- attendees as of now
are-
Henry, Dave, Sam, Mike, Ray, Scott, Tannis
The mic check will be held 11/30/11 at 12:30pm. This date was chosen
because we need to do it before dead and finals week. We also want to
do it during lunch to reach a maximum amount of people. We will meet
at camp at noon and relocate to the Rendezvous.
We will be situated in the rendezvous, east end of the building (by
the IT desk), “studying”; Initial person will yell “Mic check!” and
we'll respond throughout the building. We will have 5 sections of the
script, 5 people mic checking.
Legal will present their work during the last week-
Still working on a schedule for the legal observers. Chris will be
gone 11/19-20, his briefcase will be left in the warming tent with
cases that are relevant to OccPoky.
Do NOT, under any circumstances, urinate or defecate on ISU property.
We have received a warning from Public Safety.
Update on the move to Oak and Yellowstone-
The land on Oak and Yellowstone we want to use is state owned, but its
leased to the Idaho Transportation Department; ITD gave the city a
permit to use the land. The city has misplaced the permit, and they
can't give us permission to stay on the land until they can see what
the permit allows them to do. ITD has stated they don't have plans to
prosecute if we use the land and they do not want to cause us
difficulties- as long as we don't interfere with traffic or damage
property, we'll be fine. The city has also stated they would not take
action against us. It would be up to ISP to do anything.
Legally, the longer we stay at ISU, the more rights we have to stay,
because we've proved we're peaceful and willing to follow the laws.
Vote to stay on ISU until Monday to gain more information-Passed, with
two abstain, one block.
Dissent- We need to move because we have said we were going to move.
The letter we sent to the city said that our intent was to move the
18th.
Discuss- Protesting black Friday.
We will protest Walmart on Black Friday- time to come as we research
the best time to protest.
Do not park in the Walmart parking lot.
Discuss- Should we break camp?
We need to shut down camp because it's a siphon on resources. Nothing
gets done when the camp is open because we're focused on staying warm.
The camp has been excellent for visibility for the movement. It is
difficult to camp, and that's where our message lies. It's too
important to give up for a warm bed.
Our movement against ISU is a scaled down version of NYC. Being here
is making a stand against a corrupt entity; ISU is Pocatello's Wall
Street.
Postponing discussion on breaking camp for the winter until after
Thanksgiving.
Agenda Items for 11/20/11-
Scott and Charlie will edit the declaration to be used for the mic
check script. These will be presented on Sunday's GA.
Discuss best time to protest Black Friday at Walmart.
Agenda Items for 11/25/11-
Rehearse mic check for the 30th.
Discussion on breaking camp for the winter.

In attendance: Scott, Gordon, John, Henry, Shelby, Lori Jo, Johnny,
Ken, Ray, Gene, Chris, Charlie, Sam, Lewis (Lorax)
Camp Location, Action for week of 11/14/11-
Mayor Blad brought us a map of the Oak and Yellowstone location; the
entire area is state land. He also brought documentation that was
given to the state when Occupy first came to ID. When asked about the
power supply, he said that we could use the power initially, but we
need to contact the city to see if the state or the city is
responsible for the power bill. Overall, the usage of power is a
small thing. Both the mayor and city council are friendly towards us.
When will we be moving?
Decided on Monday's GA that we will move the 18th. Richie (our lawyer)
was concerned that there is no precedent for non-profit organizations
using the land, but with the mayor and the city council behind us, it
should be a non-issue. Again, we're trying to show how much red tape
you have to go through to exercise first amendment rights.
Is the park accessible to people to come and ask questions?
We had some concerns about it, but we have people that are willing to
come camp with us when we move.
We're still working on parking; There is undeveloped land that we
can't use because there is construction planned. We could use the swim
and gym for parking, also city hall. Lori Jo has offered to talk to
Reel Theater, Arctic Circle and the dentist in that plaza to see if we
can use some of their parking. There is an alley behind the location
we can use for vehicle access.
The Information tent has to be placed in a spot where people can stop
if they want to to ask questions. If we can get access to the gravel
lot by the power plant, the best spot for the tent might be in the lot
so people can park and come visit us.
We need to look into setting up a warming tent with an open wall for
sign holders to get out of the weather and still be seen by drivers.
We have to get express permission from Idaho Transportation Department
to move there. Charlie will talk to ITD to secure permission to be on
the land for an indefinite amount of time.
Clean Up FMC-
There will be several Q & A/recorded oral comment sessions to attend
to show support for Clean Up FMC.
Date: Tuesday 11/15/11
Time: 4:00-7:00 pm
Place: Chubbuck City Council
Date: Wednesday, 11/16/11
Time: 11:30am-2:00pm and 4:00pm-7:00pm
Place: Fort Hall Business Center- Dome Room
Public Outreach-
Student Strike
A mic check was planned for Student Strike on Tuesday in the
Rendezvous. This has been postponed in favor of further discussion on
the Wednesday GA. The purpose of this strike is to educate the
students on what OccPoca stands for; This should be an extremely
quick event. Mic Check should be two minutes, no more.
City Council
We don't have to go to the city council meeting on the 17th, but we
can attend if we want to. We are scheduled on the agenda. We should
go to the council meeting to reciprocate the support and show we're
diplomatic and express our appreciation. They will also be able to
ask us questions to clarify the movement. We also need to tell them
what we have accomplished. Henry will work on a statement to the city
council. There are two things that we might want to bring up- we need
to talk about the status for permission with ITD, and the issue of
using power from the new location.
Education
We need new flyers printed, and a lot of them. We can never run out of
flyers. We need educational material ready to go to show to
businesses.
We have a great opportunity to get more people to our GA, especially
where we have our Sunday meetings at the College Market. If we have
strangers come, we should get a small mission statement (saying what
we are) to read off at the beginning of the meeting. There is a motion
that the next meeting should begin by reading what we would like to
have as our introduction to the meeting. Bring one or two thoughts for
what you think should be in our mission statement.
Thanksgiving
Lori Jo and Henry are in charge of organizing Occupy Thanksgiving.
There will be event information as we get closer to the date.
GA Structure-
GA Meeting Schedule
GA meetings will be held every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7pm.
The Sunday meetings will be held at the College Market, Wednesday and
Friday will be held in the warming tent. General discussion will be
held afterward. Saturday is a free day. We should set aside a day to
learn things from each other. This will help keep the camp together
and we can get over petty things.
Monday and Tuesday will be work days in camp- get your committee work
done on these days.
Scott will bring a whiteboard to write discussion topics and agenda
topics. We should have a notebook set aside strictly for agenda,
write down what you want on the agenda with your name on it.
We need GA facilitators to keep organization. Shelby will facilitate
the next meeting so we can see how it's done. There will not be one
moderator, but we need people to step up and offer to learn to be a
moderator.
GA should consist of things we have been discussing throughout the
week and voting on it. All else should be reserved for general
discussion. Remember that we need to have respect for one another and
not interrupt. Don't speak until someone is done talking, and raise
your hand to speak.
General Camp Issues-
Mission Statement- OccBoise has an excellent mission statement that we
might build off of. They have since voted out the wording of zero
tolerance of alcohol, drugs etc. This was rejected because people do
go out and have some drinks and come back to camp. They changed it so
that the meaning carries that if you do drugs, drink, etc, you're
still welcome, but you can't do it on site. There is still no
tolerance for it on site.
Remember that if you have an issue with something that happens in the
camp, bring it to a camp discussion. Due to the nature of Occupy,
issues have to be voted on before they can be changed. Please be
patient and willing to work with your fellow Occupiers.
Motion to get a legitimate pole to put the flag up.
Most of the Occs have someone to go to for a hug. OccPoca has two
official hug people- Henry is the male hugger, Lori Jo is the female
hugger.
Action Items for the next GA-
Bring one or two thoughts for what you think should be in our mission
statement.
Lori Jo will report on the available parking around our new location.
Charlie will contact the ITD about the new location.
Shelby will facilitate the next meeting.

11/07/11
In Attendance:John, Lewis, Scott, Chris, Greg, Lori Jo, Charlie, Mike,
Sam, Lyle, Justin
Camping-
Location-
Lewis got a call from the city saying the strip of land on Oak and
Yellowstone by the ice
rink is owned by the state. We have blanket permission from the state
to use state land, so
we now officially have a place to go when we're ready to leave ISU.
Parking will be an issue with the new location. Lewis will look into
possible parking for
the area. We need to contact the dentist in the plaza, Reel theater,
Westwood Mall, Arctic
Circle. We will also reach out to the swim and gym about parking and
also to see if we can
use their facilities for showering.
We need corner signs on all four corners to direct traffic to the info
booth.
We need to find out how to tap into the power available at the new
site. LED Christmas
lights are an excellent idea, but LED only, for fire safety and for
minimal electrical usage.
We need to contact OccBoise to find out who approved the state
supporting Occupy. Greg
has contact info for Yvonne (who was on dialogue). We will also let
the city council know
what our intentions are.
OccPoca was originally granted permission to stay on ISU up to
Wednesday; even
though we no longer have official permission, should we push past that
point, or move to
Yellowstone and Oak?
♠ There's a lot of bad feeling toward ISU, the community wants to see
someone fight back.
♠ If we do go to full arrest risk, we should move all community
equipment to Yellowstone
and Oak. We should push them until Saturday? Or a day later then we
were originally
going to leave to make a point?
♠ ISU will be proposing a tuition increase again. We will stay to
protest it. As of now,
ISU doesn't know that we have Yellowstone and Oak ready to go.
We need to move before Thanksgiving, so we can have a community
Thanksgiving dinner.
There is a proposal that we move on the 18th.
We need to move in the day, much as we would like to move during the
night, it's better
legally to move during the day. We also can make sure we clean the
camp thoroughly if we
move during the day.
We have to make sure we move the community equipment to Yellowstone
when arrest risk
becomes high.
If ISU asks us to move this Thursday, we will move. OccPoca's goal is
to Occupy legally,
we want to avoid arrests. We want to prove how hard it is to exercise
first amendment
rights legally. We will jump through the hoops to prove how ridiculous
it is.
As our numbers increase, we should occupy all over, not just one camp.
We should be
peaceful, but not passive.
Night Watch-
We are having problems getting the night watch shifts filled. Last
night, everyone slept and
one person got stuck with it. We don't have enough relief for people
to switch out. Day is
also a bit sketchy.
The night watch log is a valuable tool, we need to implement it on
every watch.
GA has voted and approved this measure.
The log consists of a chronological legal document of
exactly what happens during a shift. It has to include everything that
is important. Right
now, since we have a high arrest risk, we're logging every time we see
a police car, every
time someone comes to the information table, and who comes into camp
and when, regulars
and unknown. Times are needed. If someone comes to camp and asks for
one of the
campers, we can advise how long they’ve been gone. If you're leaving
camp, try to let the
watchman know when you'll be back or when you'll try to be back.
The watchman can also take notes for people who will be coming back.
When on night watch, patrol the camp every 30 minutes to check on the
tents.
Camp Safety and Sanitation-
We need to make sure there are no cigarette butts on the ground, no
litter. We can't destroy
property or litter because that would be cause for eviction. We also
CANNOT get drunk in
camp. We could have a couple drinks, but do not get drunk in camp or
come back to camp
if you are drunk. If you are arrested while intoxicated, legal will
most likely not be able to
help you. The arrest will stick to you and hurt the movement.
Drinking on site has not been an issue yet. We wanted to discuss
awareness.
General Camp Items-
We need to make signs for the info desk, Scott will ask Ken to make
them. We need labels
for the camp. Kara started labeling, we should put schedules on the
tents so if there's a
vacancy, we can have someone stay. We need to make camp fun and
inviting.
We need inventory lists made of what is in the camp and who it belongs
to, if they want it
back.
Legal-
Anarchists have promoted the idea that they are in charge of the
Occupy movement; Because of
this, police are gearing up to crack down. We need to strengthen ties
with the community and
law enforcement to make sure they know we're not a threat.
Scott will talk to Eddie, liaison with the law enforcement, we will
also work with the
Interfaith Alliance Network to get their support.
The only reason we are preparing for an attack is because we have
heard law enforcement
is mobilizing, we are NOT moving to a violent movement and we do not
plan to become
violent.
We need to find out a way to find out who the anarchists are, and
avoid infiltration. Our
aim should not be to discourage the from joining, but to stop them
from taking over the
movement.
With the news of anarchists, it's imperative that we communicate who
is coming and going
from the camp; We need to note non-regulars, specifically face, get
contact info, try to
get a picture of them (“Can I get a picture of you with the sign?”).
We need to focus on
why they're here. We HAVE to ensure peaceful protests. We are
redoubling our efforts to
ensure peace.
ARREST RISK OVERVIEW:
If you are taken into custody, they don't have to ask permission to
test you for intoxication.
Don't sign anything, don't talk to anyone in the cells.
Ask “Why am I being detained?” After asking this question, say “I
choose to remain silent
and I want to speak to a lawyer.”
If you have a cellphone, lock it. Put a password on it so they can't
get into it. Also, any
pictures can be confiscated to use as evidence, but they be destroyed.
What to do in the event of an arrest will be repeated in every GA.
This will also be on
the log of the watchmen, with the media information so we can contact
them if there's
problems.

Minutes by - Tanis Vaughn
City Council Agenda:
Letter of requests need to reach city council by noon on Nov 10th to
petition city council on
proposal to camp.
John agreed to compose civil resolutions.
The Proposed place to camp: Oak and Yellowstone. Discussed plans for
tent city using Occupy
SLC model.
Kenn volunteered to design the plans for the tent camp to be presented
to the city council.
The consensus was that the plans would be presented during the city
council meeting.
Tanis will research Universities and cities that have decided tents
are free speech. She will
present them at the next GA.
Local Action:
FMC cleanup proposals are a work in progress. Louis has a detailed
plan to propose to city
council. The consensus was to support his plan.
According to responses at past city council meetings, possible City
Council candidates who
support clean-up of FMC are Scott Odekirk and Brad Huerta.
Vyonne came in late after attending tonight’s city council meeting. We
are planning to discuss
this at Tomorrow’s GA.
The “Know Your Rights” training is Tomorrow Nov 2nd, at 7:30pm in
ISU’s, SUB Clear Water Room.
We all agreed to add our names to the Lawsuit against ISU. If it goes
public it will go tomorrow,
11/2/11. It is recommended that if there is a negative light, we
should attend the "Know Your
Rights" training. They will address arrest risk issues. There will be
a lot of useful information foreveryone.
Community Involvement:
We need more volunteers!
Kara agreed to help get support from the Bannock County Democrats.
Scott has contacted the unions via email to help support us.
We are still working on coordinating with Occupy Idaho Falls in order
to have them possibly
camp with us in Pocatello.
UPDATE: Occupy IF has contacted us and will be present on Weds and are
planning a convo for people to come down on Saturday to show support.
A Carpool to Occupy has been set up Idaho Falls and Pocatello.
We plan to meet again Tomorrow, 11/2/11, at 7pm.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10/31/2011 General Assembly notes
Public Outreach-
Media-
USA Today interviewed Scott- wanted to know demographics, who OccPoca
is. Should be in print 11/01/11.
Kathy from Channel 12 (local access) wants to have an Occupy show/
interview. Lewis has the contact information for the channel. We can
also put the interview on youtube. John has equipment to record the
interview.
Scott waiting for call from Marsha Franklin- Idaho Public Television.
She called. Show is at 8pm Thursday at the Liberal Arts building. She
is mailing details. Need volunteers to be on show.
Website & Facebook-
Public Announcement that we have immediate need for web help, mostly
volunteers to moderate the website.
There's currently something wrong with the forum; no one is able to
post. The site admin will attend tomorrow's GA.
Scott to convert Slag files from PDF to be searchable, then post on
the website.
FB links are primarily about police brutality. We need to have more
educational material. We need to not be focused on police action and
reaction. The data and numbers that are driving the protests should be
forefront. 80% of links shared on Facebook should be education
instead of police brutality.
General (Outreach) -
We need volunteers to fill committees. Scott has sent out an email
calling for volunteers.; Please forward it to anyone you think might
be interested or has skills we would be able to use. We need skilled
and unskilled volunteers. Include in the email what skills you could
contribute. If people have an assignment they will be more likely to
come.
People looking to get involved want to know what solutions we have.
What does it mean to occupy if nothing gets done?
Right now, Occupy stands for what we are against. It's a way to bring
people together. There is a possibility of a delegates being called
into a convention to petition the government with our demands. Motion
to remove from office if they will not listen to us. We can also do
this with a constitutional convention. An amendment by itself will
not fix everything. We've never had a global movement like this, we're
trying to get people to get together and talk about what's wrong to
come up with solutions to the issues we have.
11/05 (moving money from banks into credit unions) is a good action.
Do we have any other action planned?
We have awareness actions planned; we need awareness before we can
have physical action. People have to know why we're protesting before
they will be galvanized to action. We must be patient and resolute in
our goals. We can't expect change by doing the same thing over and
over again. We've continually voted in different officials with no
results.
Amendments don't work, anything that creates a special interest group
will attract corporations and it will get stolen from the people. This
is not a movement, this is a revolution.
Camp out, Action for week of 11/01-
Wednesday, 11/02/11 (Occupy the Capital Day)-
Protestors to gather at noon, on the corner of 5th and Carter. March
at 4pm GA at 6pm.
We will discuss in the Wednesday GA arrest risk actions.
Legal/Know your rights training after the GA on 11/02.
Idaho Falls is coming down on Wednesday. They have medical and food
tents, but ISU will not allow any kind of tents, regardless of time
pitched.
Occupy campus- We can't camp out, but we can protest until 5pm. We
need to have a constant presence on the campus. Ideally, we want to
line the trees along the street with educational material. Need
people there, it will be important.
If the camp/protest goes well, ISU could change their mind and let us
camp out. They're scared of a violent, uncontrolled protest.
Could we set up teepees? Just poles, as a symbol? Do we need a
permit? We could also cover with canvas.
Thursday, 11/03/11 (City Council)-
Thursday GA at city council- city council meeting at 6pm. Lewis will
get us on the agenda, as stand a better chance of getting a permit if
we play by their rules (Lewis was unable to get OccPoca on the agenda
on 10/31/11, will try to get us on tomorrow (11/01/11) after a meeting
with the senators. John will backup. They will probably try to tack
us onto the end and then “run out of time.” People's mic if this
happens?
We need A LOT of support at the courthouse.
We will try to get a permit to camp in a park. We need a specific
proposal for a permit. John will write 4 proposals that will be worded
to at least get us a campsite.
City hall actions- if they say no, we will show where other city
councils have voted it's a 1st amendment right. We will present the
municipal code issue (constitution). Also, ask how many people vote
for elected officials- the majority were voted in by a small margin,
smaller then what is in OccPoca. Use the threat of negative publicity
on the next election?
Should IF people come to the city council? Yes, they can say that IF
is allowing camp outs and not having issues, push the issue to have
the city allow us to camp.
General Camping (permits, legality, etc)-
Scott talked to the mayor about park permits, we can apply for month
long permits. If they choose to not issue OccPoca a permit, it's a
violation of equal rights. City council will probably vote yes,
they're a bit liberal. John suggests we have a pile of proposals
ready to go.
You cannot be arrested for standing on the sidewalk with a sign. Only
risk would be loitering. Chris will put together a doc saying what
you can be arrested for.
Greg- Talked to the senior center today (Linda). Senior Center is city
property, could we camp there?
Do we have a commitment to camp out?
We have more people willing to camp out then come to a rally.
We are trying to do this in the legal system. Proves how difficult it
is to exercise 1st amendment rights within the confines of the legal
system.
SLC is still going strong. Needed to get security arranged better due
to issue with vagrants.
IF and OccPoca-
IF is having a conflict of interest. Half of IF wants to rally, march
and camp, but not everyone in IF wants to do that.
Should ISU retracting permission to camp be on the OccPoca site?
We pulled the portion of the notice that we have permission from
ISU. Legal is not encouraging camping out until they have a case
built.
We will try to get permission to camp at Caldwell, Optimist or
Alameda. There's also a patch of land on Oak that would be perfect.
Grass behind the senior center, but out of public eye. Senior center
seems receptive. Permit would still have to be given.
Aid for Friends-
We've asked AFF to do training (hypothermia prevention)for the
campout. They request that we not use the term “encampment.” They do
large fundraisers with donations from corporations that use the word
encampment; they don't want to use the word and lose funding. OccPoca
will not use the word encampment. All official communication does
not have this word.
General-
We need any and all research on City Councils that have passed
judgment that pitching a tent would be an act of free speech- News,
court cases, etc. Send anything you find to the OccPoca email
(occupyp...@gmail.com).
Daycare service so people can attend meetings? Anyone to volunteer to
care for children during GA.
We also need a time regulator. We need facilitators for the meetings
to run smoothly. Daily meetings? Can we kill the daily meetings? We
could look at only doing certain meetings, arranged by teams, but we
have to have functioning teams first. We also need a sign saying who
we are when we meet at the sub.
Boise has now moved to a full occupy.
Move daily GA to 7pm instead of 6pm.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10/25/11 Meeting Notes
Signage-
We can't censor signs. We can put it to a vote, but it will never pass
(10/24/11 meeting was brought to vote).
Contradicting signs will happen, it's part of the movement. Use peer
pressure and logic to try to dissuade certain signs.
Public outreach-
General Message to the public.
We need to have people angry with us, not at us. We don't have enough
people coming; We need to get more word out. We have to grow, not die
out, and have to change perception to show that we're here to stay.
We have to gradually move to a full occupy to have the police get
adjusted to us.
Needs to be perceived as a community family event. Parents should
feel comfortable bringing their children.
Radio Stations-
Called the 3 main radio stations to ask that they run an announcement
of the upcoming events- 10/26 Alameda Park, 3pm to sundown, 10/29, 10
am to sundown, camp out (camp in, message out) 11/2 to 11/9 on campus,
with a focus on the 10/29 and 11/02 events.
korr 104 was really receptive.
KSEI KMGI contacted.
Greg left lit at the college radio station for upcoming events.
We have pledges from channel 8 to cover everything we do, channel 6
will come to everything that we have. They need to be notified of the
10/29 event and the camp out (Scott to send text to Brittney to
contact them).
Outreach/Education Committee is compiling info to give to radio and TV
to prepare for Saturday and the camp out. TBA will do a full cover
story on Occupy Pocatello.
Send links to the Occupy email to compile literature.
We want to flood ISJ with letters to the editor.
Occupy Flier ready to distribute.
Need for a graphic artist.
Meetings will continue to be held everyday for people who can't make
set meetings.
Firefighter Union Rep-
Message to union will be that we're against economic inequality and
Citizen's United.
28th Amendment an be used to sum up our stance.
Firefighters can donate money, but they have to ask for it in a
meeting; The next meeting is the 3rd Wednesday in November. We'd like
to see firefighters represented on the 10/29 rally.
Firefighters are willing to actively participate and assist.
Firefighter rep will send out emails to the union members to get them
involved in the Saturday event and the camp out.
10/29- Alameda Park-
Hit the banks on Yellowstone during the march. Need to finalize 11/2
camp out during this GA. Saturday will be another potluck.
Camp Out 11/02-11/09-
No nurses to come to join medical team. John is the medical team for
right now.
Other protests have been shut down due to poor sanitation- we need to
keep the parks and camp out clean.
Chris is setting up a “sacred” area.
Vonnie is contacting the Food bank.
Donations- We aren't a non profit yet, so pay pal will charge us to
set up an account.
We're asking for donations of supplies for the time being.
Meeting with the city council the week of 11/02 to get a month long
permit to camp out. If we're denied the permit, we'll push for it with
1st amendment. If we still get a no, we'll put it to a vote and camp
at Caldwell. If they arrest us, we will push to take everyone
arrested to individual trial.
Trying to get an extension for a second week on ISU, it will depend on
how the first week goes.
General-
Trying to set up a carpool to march on all the banks in town on the
same day.
We need more people to come to the meetings and the rallies.
