Tomorrow at noon, join UFCW 1776 (United Food & Commercial Workers
Int'l Union) in protesting a company notorious for mistreating their
workers and stifling worker organizing: WALMART! On the heels of a big
labor victory against Walmart in Illinois, Walmart is vulnerable.
Now's the time. LOCATION: 2200 Wheatsheaf Lane, Philadelphia (near
Aramingo & Roosevelt Boulevard). TIME: 12 noon. Be there!

community-based alternative to the School Reform Commission's
austerity and privatization plan.

The Veterans for Peace which planned a several hour sit on Tuesday is
rescheduled for Thurs Oct 4 in front of the Veterans Affairs Dept
Washington DC in conjunction with Occupy DC, expanded first to a 24
hour sit in, and now I have been told by one their leaders that they
will launch a 24/5 sit in starting tomorrow until the VA meets with
them (5 instead of 7 days, since the building is closed on weekends).
They claim that VA promises to meet with them did not materialize.
They were met instead with a phalanx of armed Dept of Homeland
Security police officers and other security officials. The Veterans
for Peace issues include the adverse effects of Agent Orange, Depleted
Uranium bullets, PTSD, TBI on returning veterans, high suicide rates,
delays in providing VA services to vets and their families, and all
this the result of unjust and unjustified wars since Vietnam.

October 10th 6:30pm - Love Park - Come sing out against the death
penalty with Hugh, from the Ethical Humanist Society (EHSoP),. This
candlelight vigil in honor of the 10th annual World Day Against the
Death Penalty is hosted by EHSoP and Pennsylvanians for Alternatives
to the Death Penalty and endorsed by Amnesty
International-Philadelphia Chapter. We will have music, poetry,
speeches and a reading of names of people executed in Pennsylvania.

Year Anniversary of Occupy Wall Street movement, Occupy Philly...
Discussion on What it Means for Us Now, featuring Screening (on large
screen) of The People vs. Goldman Sachs mock trial (WBAI-TV, Recorded
November 3, 2011, held at Liberty a/k/a Zuccotti Park with commentary
by Dr. Cornel West, eloquence by Chris Hedges, and testimonies from
people directly affected by Goldman Sach policies, and that of other
predatory banks and corporations.) 4:30p.m., Potluck Supper (bring
main dish, salad, or dessert to share); 5:30pm, film screening and
discussion. Limited parking space behind the church, on street metered

and Newcomers' Resource Guide to Philadelphia Planning Meeting October
25th, 6-8pm William Way Center, 1315 Spruce St. Philadelphia, PA
19107. Please come if you want to join visioning conversations about a
Queer Immigrant Rights Panel and Queer Newcomers' Resource Guide to
Philadelphia. Anyone who is affiliated with hotpot! as a member, ally,
future friend and those involved with Immigrants Rights work in
Philadelphia and wants to be a part of the planning for the panel and
resource guide is welcome. Please RSVP by October 22nd. If you can't
come, there are still many ways you can be involved!
