Hey Media,

I can't make it to your meetings. I work during your meeting hours. I've asked this before and never got an answer. What's the web traffic to the site like and where are the most successful links that people are coming from? Do we have Google Analytics set up to track the site? I think now that we have started again from a new web address it's more important than ever to start working on that. I did a search on Occupy KC and Occupy Kansas City and Occupykc.net came up on page 3. Are people working on improving our search results if we can get our website back to the #1 search result it would reduce the damage caused by our multiple personalities on the website (occupykc.com, occupykc.org, occupykc.net)? A link building campaign is something that the media work group and the remote work group can both work on. With a little luck we can get back on top pretty quick.

What do you think? Like I said earlier I haven't been to any of your meetings, so if this is something your already working on let me know if you are looking for help.

Hey Mike,

This was indeed discussed at our last media meeting. We are calling on our remote occupiers to help to the extent that they can with this by searching for Occupy KC and clicking on the resulting link to occupykc.net. We also discussed other strategies for improving search results. See item #3 in the media meeting minutes 11-18.

If you would like to lay your ideas out in the remote working group, that would be helpful. The post I made a while ago can be found here.

Hey Amy,

Thanks for the link to the minutes of the last meeting that was very helpful. I'm still interested in the web traffic information of the current website and the old website. Hopefully someone has a print out of the stats on the old website, especially the links portion of it. On my blog I like to go through my web traffic and look through the links and see what things I've done in the past week or month that has brought in the most traffic, ie - What links are directing the most traffic to my site. What I suggest is if anyone has a hard copy of the stats on the old website, is go through and see what links from what pages were drawing the most traffic to the old site. Go to those old sites get the contact information and email/call the people running them and letting them know our situation and talk them into changing the link from occupykc.com to occupykc.net. This should cut off some of the flow of traffic to the old site and reroute it to the new one. It would be rather labor intensive so I thought we could split up the list to the different remote working group people. Start from the most important links and work our way down to the little ones. There may be a lot of links going to the old site. I for one would put a link to occupykc.com in the description of any video I put up on YouTube to try to help bring traffic to the site. I would be a little guy though my most successful video so far has only had about 180 views.(I'm starting to go through my stuff and change the links in them but I think that would only help a little bit.)  Does anyone have the traffic information from the old site?

I have 3 google sites and their Analytics does make it easy to study page hits, key words, sources, time on the site.  I'm not sure our guys have an analytics program just now....but they are hard at work on a full redesign which will change everything anyway.  You're right, we've suffered on our search engine results with the changes...the media gets more hits on occupykc than we do on the website.  I'm expecting and hopeful that the new and improved site will have so much good stuff, easy to find and of actual use, that much will take care of itself.  But if you know a lot about increasing hits with metadata, I bet they'd love your help.

Much of the site's use is for internal work tasks, up until now.  Not so much for recruiting and external information.  I think it will come soon, though.

Hey Guys,

I've added you all (Greg, Mike, and Amy) as able to view reports for both occupykc.com and occupykc.net.

For obvious reasons you can only view previous statistics for occupykc.com as we are not in control of that domain as a group any longer.  If anyone else wants to see the reports just say so and I can add you on.

To view the analytics just go to http://www.google.com/analytics Just click on the blue "Access Analytics" button on the right hand side.

Hope that helps you all gather some information.

Have we thought about obtaining the domain names: occupykansascity.org and occupykansascity.net. And just put the same web site on all of them. What do you all think. I have also been in contact with other occupations and they would like us to post links to their respective occupations. Also I have been sending little update reports to http://occupyupdatesdaily.blogspot.com/.  It is a great source of news for global occupations and national. Also can you provide any tools or ideas that I could use for the KC move to amend media group. What has been the most effective tool for up to date communication? Everyone is doing a great job by the way. I encourage everyone to stay focused on the goals we have set as a movement and we will succeed.  What is the next media meeting place? same as last friday?

Also How can we make GA's more accessible on-line. I can't always attend and I have proposals and announcements to make from occupy mid-west outreach. I have been spending a lot of time contacting and communicating with various regional occupations.  There is an immense amount of information and updates going around. I was hoping there was some way I could share this information if I can't make it to GA. Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

"make GA's more accessible on-line"

Second to this call, I would think many out not even in any groups would like to see this too.

I don't really care, Christian....I"m just looking forward to the future magic.  Y'a've all heard me say good content brings hits.  I hope that's where your priorities are.  That's where MINE are.  We're restarting, sadly.  But it's okay, not to worry!

BTW, here's the latest from Monday night antics.

FLASH MOB!

Close to two dozen 'shoppers' occupied the Westport Sun Fresh Monday night after GA for a "Declaration on Isle 5". Loudly, the smiling OKC delegation recited the Declaration of Independence in front of surprised, good natured employees and evening shoppers.
