Hello Media group!

We are still on for our meeting tomorrow, Friday March 9th, from 6:30-9 pm at the Westport Coffee house. The agenda is a google doc posted here:

I know there are some who would like to meet at other places, and that is an agenda topic. However, since I already said we were meeting at the coffee shop in a previous email, I thought it would be best to keep tomorrow's meeting at its original location and we can hold the next meeting somewhere else.

For those who can come late or need to leave early, that is fine. Or meetings are usually about 2-3 hours and people can cycle in and out. Come when you can.

Thanks,

Actually, my initial objection to the meeting place was weeks ago, and
my most recent ignored objection was in response to the recent meeting
time/place INQUIRY, not an announcement. I don't appreciate one
person's narrow-minded bias being imposed on me or a work group of
OccupyKC with blatant disrespect to the rest of the working groups and
the community that has graciously offered a more than adequate meeting
space for all OccupyKC in their building. I was planning on
"boycotting" this meeting as to not lend my support to this baseless
prejudice, but since my name has been involuntarily added to a few
agenda items, I will be there. (Let the record show I am attending the
media work group meeting under protest.)

I would also suggest that we remove the "newspaper" from the agenda
since it was never a product of the OccupyKC media work group and does
not reflect the OccupyKC movement, it should have never been on any
agenda in the first place, and especially not now that they're so
embarrassed by us they've changed their name.

I also have another agenda item, but I don't know if that's for this
meeting or facilitation work group. Media work group needs a new
facilitator effective immediately.

Sincerely,
Marc

Hi Marc,

Please don't boycott the meeting. I understand your frustration with my poor facilitation skills. If I had been on the ball and got the agenda together in a more timely manner, we could have met at the church. But since I procrastinated until the last minute, I figured changing the location or time would be confusing considering I had previously sent an announcement it would be at the coffee shop.

Regarding the newspaper, if you and others do not feel comfortable talking about it, we can skip it. Since it is a paper published by people involved in occupy, we often discuss it at our meetings. Once when we met at the Big Tent on site, there was a person who was uncomfortable talking about the paper, so we tabled the discussion until after the meeting. Then, those who wanted to talk about the paper did so by themselves. We can do that again.

Finally, I am not at all offended by your suggestion that Media could use another facilitator. My personal and work life have left me unable to donate as much time as I would like to the Occupy movement. I am definitely not the best person to facilitate these meetings right now. Let's talk about this at the meeting too.

Thank you for your candid honesty, Marc. I appreciate it.

To clarify, we are not embarrassed by Occupy KC. A lot of us spend a lot of otherwise free time on Occupy KC so I'm not sure I understand that theory.

Regarding the name change, some people really wanted us to keep the name and some really had an issue with it. I wish we could please everyone but we are doing our best.

It appears some would prefer for the media meetings to not officially address the newspaper. Perhaps that is the way to go. But that's up to you all. Whatever the group wants to do is fine with me.

And Brian, I am kind of in the same boat that you're in - I've become incredibly busy with school, work, and family, and so I've had less time than I used to. But I've always thought you've handled the facilitation very well. I know it's hard to make everyone happy, but you seem to at least give an honest effort. What does everyone else think?

Hey Guys,

I'll be there as soon as I can. I'm heading out to KKFI for training here in a little while and after training I'll go to the media meeting. Also wanted to let you guys know that Chad Moore plans on coming. He wants to talk about the meeting with the mayor. If you guys could let him know I'm coming but will be very late I would appreciate it. I forgot to tell him about that. I'm looking forward to the meeting. We definitely have a lot to talk about. If you guys could put off talking about the radio show until the end I'd appreciate it. I would like to be there for the discussion.

Mike
