Hey guys:

Wanted to let you know that I won't be at the GA on Saturday, March
11th.  I will be farm sitting Thursday through Monday & will be having
a technology free long weekend.  This also means that I will not be in
on the call on Thursday evening (sadly).  I wish you all luck with
that!

I'm working on the Circle Pines press release for WIDR & also catching
up on some other OK work tonight.  I'll keep you posted on where I'm
at with that work.

Thanks,
Melinda

I'm getting a message that I don't have permission to view the doc.
Since I'm short on time I'm going to go ahead and use the release I
wrote up specifically for WIDR.

For future reference, to give me permission to groups & docs, the
email I use is: elin...@hotmail.com

Here is the press release I'm sending to WIDR:

Additionally, could you guys pass on the info to Rick that I got in
touch with some people from WIDR for him? I gave them his contact
info in regards to him getting an on-air interview.

I have not heard anything back from WIDR or either of the profs I
contacted. Have you guys heard anything from those people?

OK.

Today I received a reply from one of the professors that I approached
for a teach-in leader.

It is as follows:

Thursday 15 March 2012

Greetings Ms. Bennett, Santiago here.

I have another speaking commitment during that day.

Occupy Kalamazoo has done very little on the campuses, in the city,
or in the downtown area and the North side of the city.

My first suggestion is to push for regular teach-ins on the campuses
that connect the deposits the academic institutions make in banks
connected with foreclosures, the current 13 U.S. run wars and the
prison industry, as well as the way the endowments of these academic
institutions are invested in corporations that profit from
under-developing Africa, Asia and Latin America. My second suggestion
is to turn student debt into a social problem to be investigated and
solved collectively as part of democratizing higher education.

Some of those banks are PNC, WELLS FARGO, CITI GROUP, BANK OF
AMERICA, GOLDMAN SACHS, MORGAN STANLEY, J.P. MORGAN, & BANK OF NEW
YORK MELLON. Turning such a boycott & divestment campaign into a
learning experience and research opportunities is what I suggest the
occupy retreat discuss. If there is a follow up session before the
middle of May I will be glad to come and speak then.

I have to say that I agree that from the outside it appears we don't
do much. While I appreciate everything that everyone does, and I know
we have a lot of people who work very hard on behalf of the movement,
I do think that we have too many eggs in one basket.

I feel that we have not, as a team, concentrated on one project at a
time. For a local movement such as this to be successful we need to
have a systematic set of actions, timelines and goals to build a team,
establish presence in the community, and then work on specific
projects.

I know I, for one, get very overwhelmed when I show up at meetings and
find that there are several more ideas/ projects in the works while
projects which I have just begun to think about are not getting fully
developed & are pushed to the back burner.

I would like to see us, as a team, focus on one thing at a time. I
feel it would be the best way to get things done and establish
ourselves.

However, I will be the first to say that one of the reasons our group
is not as strong as it should be is due to a lack of commitment & time
for some. I myself find it very difficult to put in the time that I
would like. I have other commitments in my life... but this is also
why I choose to take on specific tasks which I know I can complete in
my free time. It's easier for people to get things done when they
understand what their roles are and are able to use their strengths
and work towards specific, focused goals.

Just some thoughts. Please keep in mind I am in no way pointing any
fingers, just putting some ideas out there.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning.

Hey guys:

I have received reply from WIDR & there is a show which would like to
have an Occupy representative on air this Friday at 5pm. I am having
trouble getting through to Rick's email address, I keep getting status
delivery notifications & am concerned that WIDR will not be able to
contact him.

Is there someone who would see him soon?

Thanks,
Melinda

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Following is a copy of the reply which I have received from WIDR:
(here is their email address for reply: radiofree...@gmail.com)

This invitation is open to anyone from the group. Please feel free to
email them and set things up.

"Hi there, sorry to get back to you so late again, my emails keep
getting bounced back for whatever reason, hopefully this one gets
through!

Yes, we'd absolutely love to have someone on to talk about the
organization, but we need more information about what you'd like to
discuss and how open for questions you folks are and such. You can
get in touch with us through this address, just let us know, we have
to get approval through our Program Director before getting guests
in-studio. We're still having our fundraising drive, but we will be
back this coming Friday during our usual 5-6pm timeslot, hopefully we
can work out details ahead of time.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Staticoy"
