why register as a federal anything? you can incorporate in Michigan
without a 501 anything.....check the box that says membership org
rather then board org.....make by-laws that say board has no power
other then to accept paperwork from state and that all power rests in
membership....define the membership for quroum purposes....

This will get you the bank accounts you need and allow people to write
a check to you....you just won't be federally tax exempt from
anything....but unless you were planning on not saying anything
political or within some very strict guidelines then you were not
going to be tax exempt from anything anyways.....

I was a founding member of the Flint Creative Alliance, this method
has suited us very well for 5+ years, our board has no power. To be a
member for quroum purposes you just have to have attended 2 out of
previous # of meetings. This makes the organization TOTALLY fluid but
with a loose structure in place.

Why go for a federal designation of any kind I guess is my
question.....does not seem like it would do anything....

Whatever you do, DO NOT MAKE A TOP DOWN STRUCTURE.....People are not
what make corporations evil, it is a certain structure that does not
allow for participation.....and puts greater "ownership" of the group
in hands of a board etc....
