To many of us 'over-seas observers', OccupyHealthCare is both a needed social movement in the US and an opportunity to build on common causes, reaching beyond borders. Poor people in communities around the world share much of the frustrations, fears and suffering of the majority of Americans, and many are also mobilizing for better health services.

With the growing economic crisis, most Governments will be spending much less per person on health than needed, and many people struggling with life-threatening diseases have little hope of finding the quality of care they need from their public health system. Decisions that will affect the lives of millions are being taken by these Governments without the input of the public. To encourage and support the greater involvement of people in this health debate, a new social media tool has been created by the IMAXI Cooperative, driven by volunteers living with HIV and chronic diseases.

Over the last month, the IMAXI Cooperative has been running #MeetUpMondays, a series of 24 hour nonstop "Fresh & Friendly" meetings on Twitter and SMS. The aim is to bring people together to discuss health issues and what can be done to advance the rights of millions to a healthier future. Simply signing-up for a free Twitter account, and registering your mobile number if you want to participate only by texting, will open the door to meeting and sharing with hundreds of other concerned individuals: PLHIV, PWD, patients, caregivers, health pros and advocates exchanging views and finding common ground. Dozens of Guest Hosts from around the world moderate these 30 minute chats on diverse issues, including HIV/AIDS, TB, Cancer, Diabetes, Palliative Care, Right to Health, Social Determinants, Mental Health, Women and Children and more.

The next #MeetUpMondays event is all day (GMT) on Monday, 5 December, just days before Human Rights Day. In the US, it begins Sunday 7pm EST.  Come MeetUp ShareUp SpeakUp - the Right to Health must be advanced, powered by our voices in common cause. Simply search #MeetUpMondays on Twitter for session details, or SMS text to (+91) 8129094433 with your name, or visit:

Please come help us move OccupyHealthCare beyond borders.

Everyone

Here is an interesting idea: A Hackathon. See the link below it is for the
Food Bill but the concept lends itself to OHC.

+ 1 hackathon. I participated int he farm bill hackathon and it was a
great experience.
+ 1 taking this movement international.

I would also recommend us participating developing our core principles
and then distributing them to as many citizens as possible while
simultaneously cross-pollinating with compatible occupy movements or
specific issues in our individual communities.

Health is a universal currency. Could the the foundation for a new
social economy. One in which the means of producing wealth are
reflected directly in people's ability to help other people. People
are more important than the roles they play. Changing a role
(patient, doctor, banker, lawyer, judge, police, husband, father,
student, teacher) is a lot easier than changing a person.

Let's move the 100% forward out of this mess.
