Hey Fem DAers,

At yesterday's meeting I mentioned that I'm coordinating an inter-occupation conference call for female-assigned and feminist organizers. You don’t have to identify as a woman – or even a feminist – to join, it’s basically for anyone who’s rad and not sexist and interested in supporting non-male leadership across occupations (see details below).

I sent an invite earlier but here it is again with the link for you to join and circulate to your peeps. We're especially looking for people outside the main hubs of NYC/LA/DC/SF, so if you know any organizers active in other occupies, please reach out to them!

And please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions to help build, improve, and strengthen this group.

Thanks!!!

Dear Friends and Allies,

Over the last few months it has become clear that it would be useful/awesome to have a space for the women of Occupy to share stories, best practices, ideas and frustrations and organize creative actions across cities.

So, let's make it happen!

Please click here to join the Women Occupy Listserv!

Women Occupy is a space for:
·      Organizing actions and trainings across occupations... maybe starting with International Women’s Day, March 8th?
·      Sharing best practices and resources
·      Fostering inclusion, empowerment and online safe-space, particularly for people who identify as women and/or LGBTQ
·      Whatever other needs arise from the community

Women Occupy is NOT a space for:

·      Ranting (though that is important – and there is a Rant Forum on the new site under construction, www.womenoccupy.org).
·      Forwarding general news articles, organizational or promotional newsletters, and/or youtube videos of kittens – no matter HOW cute they might be.
·      Personal attacks – disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
·      Extended one-on-one dialog: Reply to the sender, NOT the list, if you have a personal response.

FAQ

·      Do I have to identify as a woman to join?
Nope! The group is open to anyone interested in organizing from a feminist/collective liberation perspective

·      Can I invite others to join?
Please do! In order to keep the email traffic low and the conversations relevant, this is intended as a place for organizers to connect. People who are less interested in organizing but still want to know what we’re up to and when to show up can sign up for periodic updates here.

·      Who’s on this list?
A bunch of rad organizers like yourself, from many different groups and occupy actions across the country. Some have been working specifically around gender issues and some not – what unites us is our commitment to confronting patriarchy, heterosexism, and transphobia within and as a movement.

- But I already get too many emails - what do I do?
Filter it! Set up a folder so you can join the conversation on your own terms, when you feel like it.  And help make this list a useful, energizing place to be by respecting the ground rules and encouraging others to do the same. Or, if you don’t want to be part of the organizing, sign up for periodic updates and to be part of the broader Women Occupy community here.

·      How can I contribute to building this community?
As founding members of this movement-wide community, we all share responsibility for co-creating and maintaining a respectful and participatory space. Step up when you have something to share, when you see needs going unmet, or if you experience someone violating the ground rules of the group. Consider stepping back if you find yourself wanting to criticize someone else’s ideas without offering constructive feedback.
