End Violence Against Women

We stand in solidarity with our sisters at Occupy University of Vermont and around the world to put an end to violence against women.  Today, on the 15th of December, 2011, our sisters at #OUVM are taking a stand to end the culture of rape in their community.

Just this week we learned that nearly one out of five U.S. women has been sexually assaulted at some time in her life.  It is estimated that one out of every three women worldwide will be physically, sexually or otherwise abused during her lifetime. Sexual violence is a violation of human rights.

It is our understanding that the universities, colleges, workplaces, communities, and organizations in which we participate respect human rights, provide a safe environment for all members of the community, and take action when abuses occur.  Therefore, we encourage the University of Vermont to renew its commitment against violence against women, take a position of leadership among all academic institutions and start to abolish the culture of rape right now - honor human rights.

We stand in solidarity with all women in creating a free, just, peaceful, and equitable world.
