Dear friends,
At this time next week, the polls will be open in the Democratic Primary for State Senate. There is a lot at stake for Western Massachusetts in this election, and there are clear differences between the candidates.
Last month, I released a
detailed environmental platform that prioritized environmental sustainability, growing our green economy, and continuing to strongly oppose any attempts to create PCB dumps in the Berkshires and the Kinder Morgan Fracked Gas Pipeline through Western Massachusetts.
It is clear that I made some enemies on Beacon Hill and with special interests, but that's fine by me. I also signed a pledge that I would not accept contributions from energy corporations or their lobbyists. It was a no brainer for me.
I'm writing to you today, because recent campaign finance documents have shown that my opponent, Adam Hinds, has been accepting campaign contributions from Boston and out of state lobbyists representing big fossil fuel conglomerates, including ExxonMobil, the New England Power Generators Association, and Berkshire Gas.
What is further dismaying is that at Monday’s forum in Great Barrington, Hinds explicitly stated that he signed this same pledge not to accept money from big energy. This is not right, and I am calling on Hinds to return these contributions immediately.
Western Mass needs a State Senator who is an independent voice willing to take on corporate polluters like Kinder Morgan and General Electric. I will be that advocate.
Since announcing my candidacy, I have been clear and consistent on my stances on the most pressing issues facing our district.
While Hinds has these lobbyists, I have thousands of voters in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden Counties backing my campaign for State Senate.
Next Thursday, let's send a clear message that Western Massachusetts is not for sale.
Best,
Andrea Harrington
Democrat for State Senate
Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire & Hampden District
