Hi All. I'm a Postal Worker and will be contacting my union on Monday.
I'll try to get something posted on the APWU monthly meeting agenda to
be held on the 15th. Along with the American Postal Workers I will
also contact the Carrier and Mailhandlers unions.
Currently the Postal Service is finding themselves facing massive
debt. This debt was caused by a lame duck congress forcing the service
to pre-finance the next 75 years of health and retirement benefits.
They have given us a ten year period to do so. Being the only
government agency forced to do this it is obvious that if you can
break the post office it will have to go to private (corporate)
interest.

Very cool--I'm an organizer for the UFCW Local 23--I have a lot of
staff interested in this event and will be talking to my director
about having the union reps let our members know what is going on and
push for turnout/involvement. Unfortunately, I am out of town and
won't be back until Monday which only gives me about 4 days to provide
notice, but I will request information be posted on our facebook page
where we have about 1,200 members signed up on. There's been a ton of
union support nation-wide, and I attended the OCCUPYWALLST
demonstrations in New York a couple days ago where they had about 3
union members/leaders speak about how they're engaging their members
to be involved. Has anyone else been having any luck getting support
from other labor groups? Solidarity Forever!

Hey guys great to see your talking to these groups! We need some one
or ones to reach out to all the labor in the area, I haven't had time
yet and the 15 is coming quickly. Tell everyone you know and spread
the word!
DEMOCRACY, SOLIDARITY, PEACE!

So, do we want to throw a few ideas out there. I going to try my best
to get to Sunday's GA and it would be nice to throw a proposal out
there.
Some of my thoughts are:
1- To simplify the process of organizing through a straight up and
down vote from the employees.
2- To make it illegal for corporations to use threats against
organization efforts.
3- To restrict the states from taking away collective bargaining
rights.
4- To restrict the corporations from renegotiating a current contact
without an independent audit of the corporation taken first.
5- In the event that a contract would be opened that the investors and
shareholders take an equal monetary deduction the rank and file.

That's a start

Hello all, it's awesome to see that you are reaching out and coming up
with some great ideas on how to work with labor groups. I am wondering
if there is anyone who would like to get together an informal report
of the work and progress you have all made as a working group, as well
as any issues for the agenda, to share at tomorrow's meeting. Also,
facilitators will be at Schenley plaza at 2PM tomorrow before the
meeting, and all bottom liners and members of working groups are
invited and encouraged to come early so that we can meet and get
organized before the meeting.

Thank you for all you have done!

I'd love to attend but I will be out of town until Monday. But I think that's a good idea.

I"d love to attend as well, but I'm working (again)... I will be
talking to my husband's union (IATSE) and I think I have a link to the
teacher's union as well. :-)
