*Benefit for Occupy Pittsburgh at Shadow Lounge following this assembly!!! Let's plan then PARTY!* (No GA on Sunday)
Occupy Pittsburgh 2.0 is a call for a physical and spiritual
deconstruction & reconstruction of Occupy Pittsburgh. This is a chance
to refresh everything,
upgrade our physical infrastructure: *winterize it*,
re-distribute space more equitably and efficiently, bring old people
back and new people in. Let’s reclaim our mission and put the
“intention” back in our intentional community.
This is your chance to re-occupy and to re-create a community from the ground up.
Using a model similar to the recent Occupy Pittsburgh teach-in we will
featuring plenaries and break out sessions.
Some sample topics/questions to think about prior to the assemblies:
1. Formulate clear principles for the occupation
a. Why is Occupying Mellon Green still significant?
b. How do we create an inclusive and safe space for all of the 99%?
c. How do we maintain the camp as a strong physical presence for the movement and for our First Amendment rights?
2. Create an occupation site plan:
a. How do we create safe spaces?
b. How do we create a multipurpose space that utilizes resources effectively?
c. How do we create a warm and welcoming Community/Meeting Space?
3. Cultivate an inclusive, creative and participatory democratic process:
a. How do we improve consensus process and General Assemblies? i.e.
comfortable location, building consensus, hearing from diverse voices,
inviting the wider community to participate in direct democracy
b.
How do we maintain an artistic space with wide appeal? i.e. create art
using recycled materials, solar lighting, and the winter yurts
c.
How do we create spaces that allow for socializing and discussions, that
focus on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being? i.e.
dining areas, art spaces, music area, meditation, soapbox areas, etc.
