Dear Neighbors,

The City Council District 4 newsletter sent out on December 9, 2015 contained a link to donate to the Brookline Teen Outreach initiative. Due to unforeseen events on behalf of the fundraising platform being used, the link to the campaign has changed without warning. The link is now: http://ssg.startsomegood.com/brooklineteenoutreach.

The goal of this program is to help our youth build a positive, safe space to spend their time. Brookline Teen Outreach will offer opportunities for teens to meet with tutors trained in a variety of subjects, gain access to mental health services from licensed counselors, and collaborate with other area nonprofits. This type of program does not yet exist in our neighborhoods. We want to see it thrive!

What your money can help do:

* $10 - Buys tutoring supplies for a student

* $50 - Invests in a swipe card system to keep students safe

* $100 - Buys a desk and chair for students

* $250 - Tuition for one student to attend an eye-opening mission trip

* $500 - Provides a computer for student learning

* $1,500 - Provides one month of rent

Brookline Teen Outreach is not just for teens in Brookline, but for teens no matter where they come from. By providing programming that includes life skill building, ESL services, LGBTQ focused events, guest speakers from a wide range of disciplines, movie nights, and youth produced activities, Brookline Teen Outreach will be able to offer teens the opportunity to engage in positive activities, learn more about their passions, and give back to the community. If successful, this could be a model for other neighborhoods in District 4 or across the city where teens are experiencing similar challenges.

Please join me in donating to this important organization! Click on http://ssg.startsomegood.com/brooklineteenoutreach to contribute. And please share widely!

Would you like to give a donation by cash or check? Email Caitlin McNulty at caitlin...@yahoo.com to find out how or to answer any questions.

Also, a late breaking-event not included in the initial newsletter --- help support one of our local small businesses by joining the South Pittsburgh Development Corporation (SPDC) in buying tacos to support Las Palmas this weekend, December 11-13 at the Las Palmas location in Brookline at 700 Brookline Boulevard. This past week, Las Palmas was hit with hateful, racially charged graffiti. Read more about the story, here: http://bit.ly/1J0iFQp. You can also attend a rally on Saturday at noon at Las Palmas in Brookline to stand in solidarity with Las Palmas and other organizations that work tirelessly in creating opportunity and breaking down barriers for our city's immigrants. All are welcome to stand in support and join us as we show that intolerance is NOT what Pittsburgh is about.
