Improper wage payments

Good evening, Board Members,

I would like to bring another matter to your attention regarding the potential misuse of taxpayer funds. My understanding is that a solid waste driver who previously served as a supervisor was reassigned to a driver position after stepping down from the supervisory role. However, it appears that the employee's pay rate may not have been adjusted to reflect the change in position.

When I discussed this matter with Human Resources, I was informed that a payroll or administrative error may have occurred, resulting in the employee continuing to receive supervisory pay. I was also informed that the matter would be reviewed. To my knowledge, the issue remains unresolved.

Given the potential financial impact, I believe an independent review or state audit is warranted to determine the facts, assess whether any overpayments occurred, and identify any necessary corrective actions. Transparency and accountability are essential when managing public funds, and any discrepancies should be addressed promptly and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

If an overpayment is confirmed, I request that appropriate steps be taken to correct the employee's compensation and determine what actions, if any, are required under applicable policies regarding recovery of improperly paid funds. I am able to provide this employees name. This information has been confirmed by the director of HR and confirmed in employee's employment file.  

Addressing this matter openly and thoroughly would help ensure responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources and strengthen public confidence in our local government.
