Since July 11, Orange County and the Town of Chapel Hill have partnered to provide hotel accommodations for displaced residents. The Town of Chapel Hill allocated $100,000 in emergency housing funds to ensure affected residents did not face homelessness. Under the agreement, Orange County DSS has managed casework and coordinated housing solutions with support from the Orange County Housing Department.
Residents currently staying in hotels had been informed that funded hotel stays would end on Aug. 29. If approved, the additional county funding would help extend housing support for qualified residents while permanent housing arrangements are finalized.
The Aug. 26 Board of Commissioners meeting will be held at the Whitted Building (Donna S. Baker Meeting Room), 300 West Tryon St., Hillsborough, beginning at 7 p.m.
