Dear Orange County Commissioners,

I live in Carrboro and am an Orange County resident. I'm writing in support of the Hands Four Development Cooperative zoning application for Fiddlehead Corner being considered at the BOCC meeting on February 4, 2025.

Fiddlehead Corner will maintain the rural nature of this land, unlike a traditional neighborhood with large lots and the clear cutting needed for individual wells and septic. By clustering the buildings, over 60% of the acreage will be undeveloped. All sides of the property will have at least 75’ of buffer. The residents of Fiddlehead Corner will be good stewards of this land, enjoying and protecting the woods and streams and the wildlife that lives there.

I am a member of the non-profit organization called 2T, which has been working towards the goal of a neighborhood like Fiddlehead Corner for over a decade. I believe this is a good plan for Orange County and for its residents and I encourage you to approve this zoning application.

Thank you for your consideration in supporting the Fiddlehead Corner rezoning,
Bob Gingrich

Dear Commissioners,

I am a founding member of the non-profit organization called 2T, which has been working towards the building of a senior community for over a decade.

I describe the members as kind, thoughtful, intelligent, professional people who are motivated to share their golden years together.  They'd be an asset to any county they want to live in!  Bringing music, art, song, gardening, awareness of nature, and a desire to fit into this area of NC.

I believe their building plan is a good one for Orange County and for all its residents. I strongly encourage you to approve this zoning application.

Thank you for this opportunity to comment.

Sincerely,
Robin Stern

Dear Orange County Commissioners,
I am an Orange County resident writing in support of the Hands Four Development Cooperative zoning application being considered at the BOCC meeting on February 4, 2025.
While I understand that there are some serious objections to the proposed location of this development, I believe that the Hands Four Development Cooperative has done all the due diligence needed to locate the optimal location (land stewardship, affordability, community needs, etc.) within the county. I believe that the paramount need for such a development within the county justifies the approval of the zoning application.
Sincerely,
Jeffry Goodrum

Dear Orange County Commissioners,
I am writing to you to express my support of the Hands Four Development Cooperative zoning application for Fiddlehead Corner being considered at the upcoming BOCC meeting on February 4, 2025.
Fiddlehead Corner has been planned to preserve the rural nature of the property and would preserve over 60% of the land for open space, which would be far better for the environment than large single-home developments. I can attest that the individuals who are involved in this project will be good stewards of this land and are committed to preserving the woods, streams, and wildlife that already inhabit it. Additionally Fiddlehead Corner will support a community dedicated to developing long-term supportive relationships, and to the physical and mental well being of its residents as they age in place. I believe it will promote a high quality of life for those living there and for the surrounding area.
As a current member of the non-profit organization called 2T, which has been working for over a decade to establish such a community, I urge you to approve our zoning application and believe that it is a good plan for all of Orange County and its residents.

Sincerely,
Jini Tanenhaus

Dear Orange County Commissioners,

I am an Orange County resident; I’ve lived in this area for 46 years. I am also one of the founding members of the grass roots Fiddlehead Corners project.

Our goal is to provide a safe and reasonably affordable community for ourselves and others as we age. We are creating a culture of community/cooperation to maximize physical and mental health of residents with easy access to wellness and health care.

Our plans fit well with the 2030 Comprehensive plan. Some examples: Fiddlehead Corner will maintain the rural nature of this land. Clustered housing and buffers of 75-100’ will leave ~60% of the land undeveloped. Our planned sewage system is state of the art and ecologically sound.

We are committed to being good stewards of the land and good neighbors to each other and the surrounding residents. This development can serve as a model community that Orange County will be proud of. I urge you to approve our rezoning request.

Dear Orange County Commissioners,

I am writing in support of the Hands Four Development Cooperative zoning application for the Fiddlehead Corner project that will be considered at the BOCC meeting on February 4, 2025.

I have been looking into retiring to the Chapel Hill area and was delighted to discover the plans for Fiddlehead Corner.  I believe this development combines good stewardship of land and resources while at the same time supporting the type of community that will enhance the lives of residents throughout their life-spans.  The development will preserve 2/3 of the land in its current natural state, and by clustering buildings will reduce the needs for individual wells and septic systems.

I have joined the non-profit organization called 2T, which has done an enormous amount of research and planning over the past 10 years towards this project.  I believe it would be a beneficial addition to Orange County and hope that you will approve the zoning request.

Sincerely,

Susan Lawlor

Dear Orange County Commissioners,

I am writing in support of the zoning application for Fiddlehead Corner by the Hands Four Development Cooperative, an application that will be considered during the BOCC meeting on February 4, 2025.

I became aware of this organization when a colleague asked me last year to participate in a panel about healthcare expectations in this environment. My background includes over 30 years of internal medical practice, including board certification in geriatric medicine.

My particular interest in Fiddlehead Corner includes several musical instruments that I play, but primarily the hammered dulcimer, one that has brought me a wide circle of musician friends. Many of us are now facing concerns about “aging in place”. Hearing about this organization and seeing its structure, commitment, and focus is exceptionally uplifting.

I am confident that Fiddlehead Corner will support a culture of community to maximize the physical and mental health of its residents. Fiddlehead Corner is designed so that people in the community can develop long-term, supportive relationships that enhance a high quality of life.

I believe this is a good plan for Orange County and for its residents and I highly endorse and encourage you to approve this zoning application.

Sincerely,
Martha B. Adams, MD

In support of Fiddlehead Corner rezoning

Dear Orange County Commissioners

I have lived in Chatham County for over 35 years. I am an early member of the Fiddlehead Corner project and support their rezoning request.

A major goal is to provide living opportunities in a clustered rural setting that preserves natural landscapes and wildlife corridors without requiring large lots. Over 60% of the acreage will be in a natural state. Fostering a community spirit is also important to the project. The aim is to provide a safe and reasonably affordable community designed to support healthy aging in a rural setting.

Our plans fit well with the goals presented and discussed in the draft 2050 Comprehensive Plan. Our planned sewage treatment system is state of the art. Rural communities need leaders in innovative land use planning. The Fiddlehead Corner project can help meet this need. I urge you to approve the Fiddlehead Corner rezoning request.

Dear Orange County Commissioners,

I am a senior citizen living in Durham County, and am writing in support of the Hands Four Development Cooperative zoning application for Fiddlehead Corner being considered at the BOCC meeting on February 4, 2025.  Although I do not live in Orange County, Fiddlehead Corner is not far away and so is of interest to people in Durham. The proposed neighborhood represents an appealing possibility for people like me who are getting older every day!

I am a long-time member and supporter of the non-profit organization called 2T that has created the plan for Fiddlehead Corner. 2T has been working on Fiddlehead Corner for over a decade. I would love to see the dream become a reality.

Two big reasons I support this project;

- The design makes good use of rural land close to town. Fiddlehead Corner will have relatively small impact on the amount of open space that makes Orange County so appealing. There will be no clear cutting. Because the buildings will be clustered they will not change the landscape as much as if there were to be large houses on large lots. All buildings will have at least 75 feet of buffer. More than 60% of the land will be preserved as open space.

- The design of the neighborhood will also enhance the sense of community, so that older adults, so susceptible to social isolation as they age, can experience good quality of life. We need model communities like this as the population ages. There are limited options at present for older adults who find it untenable to age in place.

In sum, I believe Fiddlehead Corner will be good for Orange County and for its residents.  I encourage you to approve this zoning application.

Thank you for your consideration,

 Marilyn Hartman
