Proposed change to planning regulation.

I am opposed to the proposed changes to planning regulation.

We are in a unique period of American history: an on-going experiment on the removal of traditional checks and balances that have long been a hallmark of our democracy. This experiment has shown limited benefit to the general public. Rather, the elimination of checks and balances has simplified the lives of those selfish individuals who came more about personal profit than for societal good. This is not a trend that we should encourage at any level, much less where land-use decisions can have generational impact.

I implore the commissioners to reconsider who they represent and who stands to benefit from the proposed changes. In my mind, those parties are not the same. Perhaps the benefits flow more directly to the commissioners themselves, in which case they should clearly state that as point of fact in their decisions.

On behalf of the Orange County Board of Commissioners (BOCC), thank you for sharing your viewpoints about recent Orange County Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) amendments. The BOCC did not pass those proposed changes at the September 1 business meeting. However, the BOCC does want to support changes that benefit the community and looks forward to further discussions on these topics.
