A neighbor informed me that his internet that he uses for work, his AT&T line was cut.  So, T Mobile and Lumos cut thru another utility line.  The S&N supervisor asked the homeowner to call it in.  Again, all the workers were Spanish speaking only so none could call in the interruption of service and the supervisor had no idea what to do either even though he speaks English.

The workers were clueless, cutting thru more ditches, holes in road when their supervisors were not around.

I saw no markings by AT&T or Spectrum of their lines so I wonder if Lumos or T Mobile are concerned about cutting utility lines.

A number of people on this road do their work at home.  I had a roommate who worked at home with high speed internet, AT&T in 2003-07.

You really wasted your money putting in high speed internet on Bobcat Road.

Sincerely,

D. L. Nichols

Ms. Nichols,

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. I will follow up with Lumos regarding the reported issue to ensure that any utility lines affected during construction are addressed appropriately.

I also want to clarify that the conduit and fiber installation on Bobcat Road is not being funded with county resources. Work on Bobcat Road is incidental to extending service into grant areas covered under the county agreement. The installation serves as a pass-through route to reach those grant areas, and no county funds have been used for this work on Bobcat Road.

Sincerely,

Robert Reynolds

Dear Mr. Reynolds,

Thank you for info.  The County Commissioner I spoke to over the phone a couple of weeks ago, when the water was out, stated that the money for this internet here was from a grant from federal monies.  It is being used for areas that do not have high speed internet service.  She said that Bobcat Rd was mistakenly believed to not have high speed internet and was included in the funds to put in high speed internet service.  I told her we did not need it.  She seemed disappointed that it was a waste as well as saying that she was disappointed in Lumos.  Apparently Lumos has done other things.

It may not come from county money.  If from federal funds in any way, it has been a waste of funds that could have been for more deserving people.  Bobcat Rd will have 3 high speed internet providers.

It is not free to put in lines here.  There were around 6 or 7 S&N Infrastructure people here yesterday working in the ditch, cutting a large hole in the middle of the street, along with a specialized back hoe and three large trucks with 2 large trailers in front of my house.  Plus a 4 person crew of "safety highway people" that only sat around the whole time.  There was a female included in both crews.  That is a whole lot of money but this labor is being paid little due to their citizen status.

I was outside yesterday when the neighbor with AT&T internet service informed the supervisor, who just arrived, that his internet service was out and his business was dependent on the service.  I heard him talk and the supervisor didn't know who to call so the resident went to call and get the service back on.  The supervisor left soon after that and left only Spanish speaking people working in the ditch.  The same ditch AT&T was in today fixing things for which I sent photos.

AT&T was still working on the repair at 4:30 pm today and nowhere near the end of it.  They were going to stay late.  There were at least 7 AT&T men here today with numerous large trucks, 2 high rise trucks for lifting people up in the air.  One of the photos I sent earlier was 2 men working today on individual fibers broken or cut by S&N.  No one was from S&N here.  AT&T only had 1 safety person standing around instead of 4 as S&N did.

We never have had internet breakdowns this long, only when there was a major snow storm and power was out.  I hope my Spectrum is not cut.  My phone landline and internet is dependent on them.

I hope our service is not interrupted by this inexperienced subcontractor that Lumos has hired people only recently in this country and knows little about our infrastructure.

Sincerely,

D. L. Nichols
