Eubanks Road Waste & Recycling Facilities Project Update

Eubanks Road Waste and Recycling Center will close for remodeling February 28. The Eubanks Rd. Waste and Recycling Center will officially close at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28 to begin a significant modernization project. It is anticipated that renovations will take approximately ten months to complete.
The Temporary Waste Center located less than a mile away on Millhouse Rd. will open at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2. The Temporary Center will be staffed and will operate the same hours as the current Eubanks Road Center, but will have limited services for only the disposal of household garbage, bulky items, scrap metal, yard waste and electronics.
The Temporary Waste Center is next to the Parks and Recreation office (6850 Millhouse Rd.) near railroad tracks, a sharp curve, residents, and businesses, and traffic is likely to intensify when the center opens. We urge all users to please use caution and have patience!
During the construction period, Eubanks Road Waste and Recycling Center users are asked to alternatively use the following facilities:
- The fully-operational Waste and Recycling Centers at Ferguson Rd. or Walnut Grove Church Rd.
- Mixed recycling and corrugated cardboard to one of the 24-hour recycling drop-off sites. The closest is at Cedar Falls Park on Weaver Dairy Road, but some may find the drop-off sites at Carrboro Plaza or University Mall to be convenient as well. This is also a good time to utilize County-wide curbside recycling collections!
- Tires, large appliances and corrugated cardboard can be taken to the Orange County Landfill at no charge during hours of operation, Monday- Friday 7:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Batteries and automotive wastes can go to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Eubanks Road, Monday- Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- If you live within the Town limits of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, or Hillsborough, please consider using your Town’s curbside collection service for bulky items.

We are consistently thanking our users, nearby residents and businesses for their patience during the construction period. We believe it will be worth the wait! The new and improved Eubanks Road Waste and Recycling Center will be paved. There will be lower level containers to ease disposal of heavy bulky items, appliances, clean wood, tires, metal, and yard waste. New compactors for household garbage, cardboard, and mixed recycling will increase capacity? and hauling efficiency. Separate routing for County collection trucks will improve flow. The Household Hazardous Waste Collection currently located on the south side of Eubanks Rd. will be moved inside the Center and operating the same hours as the center. Food waste, used cooking oil, textiles, plastic bags, and an improved “salvage shed” will also all be added to the suite of recycling services available to residents.
