On behalf of the Board, thank you for sending your questions. NC General Assembly has been funding less and less, especially for public schools, since 2011 and counties have been left to fund the services, or not. Orange County residents as a majority have supported the BOCC’s increasing support of public education, EMS services and a strong social safety net. Since the SE and NC generally are at the bottom of the US, we do not want to use them as benchmarks. We do want fair appraisals. When we ask what should we cut, instead we receive requests for additional services such as libraries.

Sincerely,

Jamezetta Bedford, Chair

Why are you wasting our time and money on this rather than taking a step back and addressing the ridiculous tax burden on ALL of us?  Form a committee in collaboration with the local town governments to conduct a department by department assessment of costs/redundancies/inefficiencies/elimination of non-essential services (benchmark against other local governments in NC and the southeast) so that our tax structure and the unending outsized increases can be aligned with other NC and southeastern counties and municipalities rather than continuing to be the laughingstock of the lot.  Is anyone addressing the concerns of the taxpayer (all of them)?
