Good morning! I am writing in support of building West Triangle High School in our community. We are currently districted to Orange High School. I have four children, three of whom have had experiences with OHS. We had one who graduated (but didn't enjoy her experience there and wished she could have gone elsewhere), one who attended for a year but was bullied (the principal was at best ineffective, at worst negligent in doing anything to stop it), and the third, a special needs child, didn't get the federally mandated care he needed but was ultimately fortunate enough to get into a Durham charter school and had a great experience there.
I am now facing the prospect of sending my fourth child to high school in about a year, and I am trying desperately to find any other solution besides OHS. It is exceedingly hard to get into Eno River Academy, and we are not districted to Cedar Ridge.
Hillsborough is growing so fast, I feel too fast. But if the powers that be are going to continue to approve new neighborhood builds, you also have to be responsible for providing quality schooling for all of the kids moving to the area. Our schools are bursting at the seams, and having a new option that would ultimately let the pressure off to the tune of 600 kids would be a boon for Hillsborough.
I encourage you to approve the rezoning on Lawrence Rd and provide our community with a school option we all need.
Thank you for your time,
Amy Carabetta
