Creative People! Due to the amazing talent and great participation, the Pumpkin Decorating Contest is back on. Details/Rules are the same as last year, but will be sent again early next week. Reach out to the contest host, Kalani Allen, if you plan to participate or have any questions.
Those not participating in the contest, please be sure to vote on your favorite pumpkin(s) at the celebration.

Hi All – a few kind employees were gracious enough to let me know that I left last year’s date on the flyer sent last week. Please post the updated attached flyer as a reminder and so those who do not check email often will be aware. Thank you to those who emailed me, so I could make the correction. My apologies for the error.
Also attached is the flyer for the PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST. Please post this as well.
TRANSPORTATION:
For the upcoming Employee Appreciation Event, Orange County Transportation Services will provide a scheduled dedicated shuttle to/from Social Services (113 Mayo Street, Hillsborough) and Blackwood Park. The shuttle will begin service at 10:30 AM, with the first planned drop-off scheduled for 10:45 AM, and will continue to operate every 30 minutes thereafter. The final pick-up from Blackwood Park will take place at 2:30 PM.
Shuttle Schedule
- Start Time: 10:30 AM departure from Social Services
- Frequency: Every 30 minutes (to/from)
- Last Pick-Up: 2:30 PM from Blackwood Park
Anyone in Chapel Hill who would like transportation, we will accommodate via the Orange-Chapel Hill fixed route. Employees will need to be at the Seymour Center (2551 Homestead Rd, Chapel Hill, NC) for either the 9:45 or 10:45 pick-up (these pick up times only). The bus goes past Blackwood Farm Park on its return to Hillsborough. There will be opportunities to return to Seymour every hour beginning at 12:00 PM.
Any employee can ride the shuttle rather than driving to Blackwood Farm Park since parking is limited. In an effort to gauge just how many riders there will be, please fill out this survey only if you plan to ride. If you change your mind, it’s okay. We just want a general idea.

What: Appreciation Celebration
When: Friday, September 12, 2025
Where: Blackwood Farm Park
Time: 11:00 – 2:00
- Employees who registered online and selected their meal and gift size will receive a ticket for each and both tickets will need to be brought to the event
- If you did not receive a meal ticket, there will be an extra table that includes all of the options offered to choose from.
- If you are picking up a gift for someone else, you must have their gift ticket and have written your name on the back of the ticket.
- If you received a ticket for your gift and do not pick it up from the event, you can pick it up from HR September 17 – 19, 2025
- If you did not receive a ticket for your gift, there will be some available for pick up at the HR office (first come, first served – while they last) beginning Monday, September 22, 2025
- Transportation Parking is limited, so plan to use the OC transportation or carpool! Buses will be running in 30 minute intervals to/from DSS in Hillsborough. See email below. Be sure to register for pick up so our OCTS will have an idea of capacity while providing this service for the celebration.
Bulk Lunch Pick Up
- If you have registered for food and are no longer able to attend due to coverage or other work commitments, please coordinate within your department on who will be picking up the food.
- An email should be sent to Crystal Green with the names of the orders that will be picked up by noon on Wednesday, September 10th so the orders can be prepped for pick up during the pick-up time.
- Those picking up food in bulk should bring a box or container to accommodate the orders being picked up
- You will need to bring all of the food tickets with you to pick up the bulk orders.
- Bulk orders must picked up at the venue between 9:45-10 AM on Friday, 9/12. If you are picking up on behalf of someone else, you will need to have their tickets.
- This will ensure that the line is not being held up for bulk orders during the event timeframe

o Take pictures at the backdrop with your co-workers and friends
o Pick up your appreciation gift
o Honorees should visit the VIP Tent and have photos made with their Directors and the County Manager (11:30 – 1:00)
o Contribute to Food Drive to support Orange County’s Department of Social Services Toys for Tots (raffle for those who donate to receive a gift)
o Vote for your favorite pumpkin in the Pumpkin Decorating Contest
o Check out an OC’s Electric Vehicle
o Visit with animals from Animal Services
o Relax for a little bit and listen to music shared by our Director DJ – maybe even get a dance in or two
