Hi Carol,

Yes, Blake is on it re vouchers.
And, the rubric for awarding affordable housing dollars to nonprofits does include 20 points for special populations now (veterans, homeless, IDD, disabilities etc). Commissioner Fowler petitioned for update of the rubric and to better define the points for special populations and how to do a sliding scale award depending on ration of units for special pops to total units. It's on our to-do list.

Public Housing is a different process. They look at several factors. HUD sets those rules.

Subject: [EXTERNAL MAIL!] Housing vouchers for intellectually disabled adults

Hello, all! The county housing department currently issues special subsidized housing vouchers only for vets, homeless, and foster kids. HUD does have other vouchers for non-elderly disabled and at least one other category that could serve adults with intellectual disabilities. These are available to cities and counties intermittently, so it would be great if you could keep tabs on HUD and request them when available. Chapel Hill does not issue vouchers. (It’s possible the state gets the vouchers and distributes them to cities and counties. I don’t know. Same exercise in keeping tabs.)

Also, I want to remind you of my request some months ago to include extra points for disability in selecting who gets a vacancy in your public housing.

Thank you!
