To Orange County Commissioners:

 

To date, it appears there have been no postings – not on social media or in the county’s weekly newsletter – about two board meetings this week: tonight’s BOCC meeting and last night’s Planning Board meeting.

 

I’m writing to request that you prioritize informing and engaging county residents with timely, detailed communications to encourage robust public participation in board discussions and decisions. 

 

For equitable access to staying informed about issues affecting local communities, please post meeting notices on Facebook, Instagram, X, BlueSky, in the county’s weekly online newsletter, and on the county’s “Events” web page. If there is a “Meetings” or “Calendar” page of all upcoming meetings on the county website, please make it highly visible.

 

At minimum, please post notices with following details:

Hi Laura,

Please go to  https://www.orangecountync.gov/1561/Electronic-Newsletters   You can sign up specifically for the Board of County Commissioners (Sunshine List) that is very comprehensive with meeting notices, agendas and press releases,  and also for BOCC News and many other e-newsletters including for Planning.   

We can do some PR to let folks know about this variety of newsletters .

Hi Wil,

I appreciate you letting me know. However, the BOCC meeting notice is not visible on Facebook under “Posts.” The “Events” listings on the county’s Facebook page are not visible to the general public, only to followers. I don’t see the meeting notice posted elsewhere on social media, and it is not included in the newsletter, “This Week in Orange County for September 4, 2025,” posted this afternoon.
