Dear Orange County Board of Commissioners,
As you continue budget deliberations, I am writing to express my support for maintaining and strengthening the county's investment in public education.
I encourage you to support the following amendments:
  • OP-B05A, which would increase education funding by 5.5%
  • OP-B05B, which would increase education funding by 4.5%
Either of these amendments would meet CHCCS's continuation budget request and help ensure students, educators, and schools have the resources they need.
I also support CIP-B01, which would increase pay-go funds by $3 million to cover design costs for needed school renovation projects and preserve bond funds for construction.
Additionally, I urge you to oppose amendments that would reduce education funding or delay school-related capital projects, including OP-B18, CIP-B06, CIP-B07, and CIP-B12.
Thank you for your service to Orange County and for your continued commitment to our students, educators, and public schools.
Sincerely,

Javier Cid

Dear Orange County Board of Commissioners,

I'm writing to you as a 2nd grade teacher at Scroggs Elementary, and a mother of a 3rd grade student at the same school. Our family is invested in public education in this district and we are hoping for your continued support.

Thanks,

Sasha Harrison, M.Ed.

Dear Patricia Berge,

On behalf of the Orange County Board of Commissioners (BOCC), thank you for sharing your viewpoints about the county budget and funding the full continuation budget of our public schools and increase pay-go funds.

We appreciate the feedback as budget season nears the end with a Budget Work Session on June 4 where commissioners discuss and vote on amendments to the County Manager’s Recommended Budget.

Sincerely,
Jean

Dear Orange County Board of Commissioners,

I am a 29-year veteran teacher, and I have taught at Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill for 25 years. As a longtime resident and homeowner in the Orange Co. part of Mebane, it is my duty to advocate for all of the county's public schools. Maintaining and strengthening the county's investment in education is more important now than it ever has been, as the state continues to hold our public schools hostage. It is utterly disappointing and anger-inducing that our county has to compensate for what the state refuses to do.

I'm writing today to express my support for the following budget amendments:

1. OP-B05A and/or OP-B05B - these amendments would meet CHCCS's continuation budget request and help ensure students, educators, and schools have the resources they need.

2. CIP-B01 - to allow bond funds to be used solely for construction costs

Additionally, I urge you to oppose amendments that would reduce education funding or delay school-related capital projects, including OP-B18, CIP-B06, CIP-B07, and CIP-B12.

Thank you for your service to Orange County and for your continued commitment to our students, educators, and public schools.

Sincerely,

Sally Merryman
