Due to the threat of severe weather, including strong winds and possible tornadoes, Orange County will suspend all in-person services at 12:00 p.m. today.
The decision was made out of an abundance of caution to protect the safety of county employees and residents as the National Weather Service forecasts potentially dangerous weather conditions across central North Carolina this afternoon and evening. Wind gusts are expected to reach peak speed between 3 and 7 p.m. this evening in the Triangle area.
Essential services, including emergency services and law enforcement, will continue to operate.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
Transportation Services
Orange County Transportation Services fixed routes and demand response will make their last pickups at 12 p.m. Drivers will be on the road until approximately 2 p.m. to complete all trips.
Cold-Weather Cots Hours
As a result of the severe weather, the emergency cold weather shelter (828 MLK Jr. Blvd., Chapel Hill) will open one hour early (6 p.m. - 7 a.m.).
