I am opposed to the high density housing development proposed to be built on Morrow Mill Rd. and Gold Mine Loop Rd.  I have owned land since 1990 that is about 3 miles south of the proposed large development.  I am concerned about:

Massive use of ground water which all residents of this area depend on for household use.  There is already the UNC animal facility on Orange Chapel Clover Garden Rd. that uses a large volume of groundwater.  The proposed development would further tax the aquifer for those that already live in the area.  Maybe the aquifer won't go dry in a year or 2 but it could in our lifetime.  What happens then?  Will Orange County supply all residents with potable tap water?

Possible contamination of ground water from the development's sewage disposal system.  There is a diabase dike rock formation that could facilitate the flow of contaminants into the groundwater.  More than 20 years ago Orange County proposed locating a landfill a little off Orange Chapel Clover Garden Rd, over 1 mile from the proposed development.  One of the main reasons this site was not chosen was because of possible contamination of groundwater and the nearby Haw River through the diabase dike rock formation.  This still should be a reason not to allow massive dumping of sewage into the ground.

Increased traffic.  I commute to Chapel Hill by bicycle.  There is already a disturbing volume of traffic on highway 54.  We don't need more.  I doubt the retirees will join me in traveling by bicycle to town.

This large development should be built in town where there is the infrastructure to support the large number of residents.

I have lived in southwest Orange county since 1984.  I treasure the peaceful countryside and wildlife.

Please oppose this development in this rural neighborhood.
Thanks,
