-Revisit the bond plan that does not benefit all students and is not fiscally or geographically responsible now, as it was the most expensive option when proposed and selected.
-Pause Carrboro Elementary work after the design phase.
-Rebuild FPG (due to high capacity, and current flood zone + building failure expectation).
-Close Estes Hills due to its low capacity and risk of failure as well as its proximity to other elementary schools, especially on the west side of 15/501. In time, (next bond or leftover money) rebuild Phillips on Estes Hill’s site, level Phillips and redesign athletic fields for Phillips. Current athlete totals are capped and cannot compete with other middle schools due to land space and facility issues. The neighborhood parents will benefit from a new school, new fields and their children still get to walk to middle school.
-Redistrict Estes Hill’s students to Seawell, Morris Grove, Northside.
-Close Glenwood, move the Mandarin/Steam programs to Rashkis.
-Redistrict Rashkis non magnet kids to Ephesus and Northside.
-Sell Glenwood land for affordable housing to developers to make enough money to carry out further plans.
-Resume Carrboro Elementary rebuild
-Renovate Ephesus, Seawell, Rebuild Phillips and then move to Culbreth with surplus bond money and Glenwood land value
-Consider making Ephesus, Seawell, Northside "Intentional Tech Magnets,' which would recruit young families to the district, reducing transportation headaches and costs in walkable communities.
To proceed with your swing vote temperature checks appears as though there are back door discussions and impartial information being given to specific schools. As Dr. Griffin was quoted in 2025 about reducing the pay-go feels like a “bait-and-switch,” this process is optically extremely similar. The proposed bond plan IS NOT BINDING to your current promises and voters feel duped and enraged.
This spot redistricting plan is the easiest way to flux families with the least amount of harm, while upholding the programs that have historically caused CHCCS district to lead in NC.
It is not too late to do the right thing and revisit the bond to prevent driving angered families out of the district with the seemingly corrupt, narrow and rushed, fiscally irresponsible process that is unfolding now. This plan will do the least amount of harm to the district while being fiscally responsible
