Dear Jean, Amy, Marilyn, Earl, Sally, and Phyllis,
I write to you today to share my strong support for the appointment of Rani Dasi to fill the interim role for Jamezetta Befrod’s seat on the Orange County Board of County Commissioners. I share in the sadness of losing Jamezetta, as she had a significant impact on me in my time on the CHCCS School Board and beyond. I also appreciate the thoughtful process that you and the Orange County Democratic Party put in place to identify the individual for the interim position and those who applied for their willingness to serve.
I had the opportunity to serve on the CHCCS School Board with Rani Dasi for four years, including her service as chair/vice chair and my own time in the leadership roles. In that time, I witnessed Rani’s strengths even in very trying times, including COVID, changes in superintendents, tough decisions regarding programs and budgets, and sensitive personnel or children’s issues. She never forgot the mission of our work to serve each child and family in our area. In each situation, Rani put in the hard work to ensure that key information and perspectives were included in the discussions and the decision-making process. Her strengths in analyzing data and understanding financials provided much-needed grounding on complex issues, and her ability to ask questions at critical times helped to ensure that the board members and superintendent were thinking of all sides of an issue. She was always prepared and was willing to learn when a new issue or opportunity emerged. Rani also took responsibility in supporting new board members, including myself. She also took the time to show appreciation for and celebrate the progress of fellow board members and CHCCS leadership and staff.
When I consider the critical work that each of you leads, I am confident that Rani has the skills, knowledge, and care to be a strong member of the BOCC immediately. Her ability to learn quickly and willingness to ask questions will allow her to contribute quickly to the work of Orange County, and she has demonstrated her commitment to those in Orange County and beyond during her decade of service. Rani shows up with incredible skills and knowledge to do the hard work. I strongly support that you appoint Rani for the interim BOCC role.
Thank you very much for your service,
Mary Ann Wolf
