Hi, all -- I hope you can join us for dinner tomorrow, Thurs. 1/6/2011 at the new shop, 1840 columbus.  The middle street-side door (just to left of the dumpster) will be open until 6:15, or feel free to pull in the back off Merwin, enter through the person-door to the left of dock door #1 (at the far end of the Bldg, where the paved area turns to gravel) .

We will:
1. Choose colors from swatches for enamel paint for metal doors, columns, stairs, and tools. (and discuss color for the workbenches, which need different paint -- should match?)

2. discuss and choose crafts to prototype to sell at Walleye gallery event in May.

3. materials list for signs to designate rooms, work areas

4. Share some vegan soup etc.

See you then -- call if the directions are confusing: 216 346 3526

Happy New Year Artists!

It's been excellent to see the conversations that have started around both bike-part crafts and shop decoration.

I'd like to suggest we start a regular drop-in session to have more brainstorming/prototyping/group work time.  Eventually we could work to have items ready by May for the event at Walleye Gallery as we discussed.

Here is a poll of the hours available at the new shop to start this. Please choose the times you are most likely to attend, and we'll pick the most populated.  You are of course welcome to come down during any of our open hours!

My big goal for January is to create signs for most of the shop areas and for tasks that volunteers can do.  Many of the tasks can be found here, but the shop sections will need to be outlined (I will take care of this soon).  If people are available this Thursday from 6-7, like last meeting, we could start to divide up the list of signs and get any materials that you need ready - please RSVP if you can make it!  We will keep the mural in mind as a medium- to long-term project, but these short-term signage needs will go a long way towards making the space easy to navigate.

Lastly, if anyone wants to help paint the walls of the big retail space white tomorrow (Wednesday) from 5-9, bring some clothes to paint in and come on down!  We will have plenty of supplies and a professional painter to help guide the process.

Cheers,
-Lee

P.S.  A note on working with bike parts:  A main goal of this work is to add value to stuff that flows through OCBC. Chains and gears are the most durable and evocative of the plentiful wear-parts material, but also the hardest to clean. The bowl idea is fun, and you may have all seen our wind chimes made of gears. To use these effectively the first job is to clean them thoroughly, easily, and as "greenly" as possible.  We have salvaged an agitator from the previous building owner which may solve this problem similarly to this.  We will try to experiment with this soon.

Well I was planning/hoping to make it to the meeting, but needed to go home first and take care of the dog.  I just got home, so there is no way I would make it there before everything is done and folks have gone home.

Let me know what the discussion was and what was decided.

Ben

Hello artists!

Thanks to everyone who responded to the Doodle poll, our weekly meeting time will be Wednesdays from 7-8pm!  People are welcome to stay until 9.   Our first meeting will be this Wednesday (for whoever can make it with this somewhat last-minute notice).  This week and next I'd like to focus on designing/creating signs for the new space so we have a few basic spaces labeled when we open on January 29th.

We can draw/draft/start signs this Wednesday, and order any supplies that we need for next week.  If anyone would like to make their own draft(s) before the meeting, feel free!  Some of the most important signs will be:  Retail, Break Room, New Donations, Member's Shop, Staff Shop, Classroom, Washroom, Bathrooms & Parts Room.

To answer some recent questions (sorry for the delay):

-Only a blue and a blue/grey to match the rolling doors have been ordered, and Jamie (who has been painting much of the co-op) will be testing to see if a regular brush is relatively easy and looks good with the special paint.  I will let you know if we need help with this.

-Last meeting, we discussed paint colors, walked through the areas of the co-op that need signs, and briefly talked about artist/co-op attribution in art.
-Paint colors:  Since blue & white are on our logo, a combination of blue and orange for metal/doors (plus perhaps purple or green later) got several votes.  In particular, Osage Orange (SW6890) and Blue Chip (SW6959) got 3 votes each.
-Signs:  We walked through to view each space that should have signs
-Attribution:  We'd like to balance artist and OCBC attribution.  We we'll talk about this more as bike-part art gets created and mass-produced.

Let me know if you have any further questions, hope to see you on Wednesday!

Cheers,
-Lee

Hey Lee,
Thanks for adding me to the list.  The last meeting was entertaining and good.  Have the colors been ordered yet?  Where are things at now?

And are professional painters painting things- or will you need help to paint doors, etc?

Hope you're staying warm.
Sincerely,
Diana

Lee,

I will be available this Saturday to help out with moving/coordinating volunteers. I will have a dog in tow. Regarding Wednesday - I'll be around per usual.....but if moving is a priority I'd like to forego the meeting in favor of moving and preparing for Sat. I will draft my ideas and leave it at the meeting.

See you tomorrow,

Greg
