I frequent the online bikeforums.net and someone posted a picture of a
bike chain bowl that they received as a Christmas gift. It looked
pretty cool, so I did a quick search and found this :

So what sorts of bike art have you seen or been thinking about?

I have a few ideas on what could be done with the chains and gears. Thinking about sings, lettering. Also, we can make decorative lighting fixtures with them (might be heavy), chain structure could cast intricate shadows.

I might be fun to have a 'competition' to see how many ideas people can come up with for chains, gears etc.

I like the bowl idea. I was at a party recently and the host put wine glass charms on each glass. Then it hit me. Using dead spokes cut to an appropriate length, we can easily use small components (chain, ferrules, nuts, etc.) and make an item for those who are too inebriated to remember which glass they should be sipping from.

Other ideas:
- Fork turned into a free standing toilet paper roll holder
- Coffee table/End Table made out of frame pieces and rims
- Coat rack made of rims and fame pieces

I've seen a sculpture of three tires, each with it's own chain, all connected to the same pedals in the center. The one set of pedals turned all three wheels. I think that would make a cool wall mount.

Maybe we should start to compile pictures of all the things that we are seeing.  Then at some point we can all get together to discuss them and determine which ones make sense to produce.  I would think one factor would be how well the construction steps can be broken down and how much skill each task would take.

I am in discussions with a youth focused agency on the east side to work with the OCBC in potentially jointly producing items for sale. That would mean having some item fabricated and assembled by folks basically in their teens.

So in talking with some folks and showing them some pictures, I have
two people who have expressed interest in the wind chimes and one in a
chain bowl.
