Yes, we know it's Mother's Day next week and yes, there are a lot of events going on Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, but we'll be continuing with our SEVENTH PickITup Chinatown to continue with the momentum we've started. Next one well be on Sunday May 14th, 11am-2pm and both the mothers that help out and/or the participants will get a little something to bring back to their mothers from OCA-East Bay.
Each time, on the second Sunday of each month, empowered by the 40-50 volunteers each time, we have removed hundreds of pounds of waste out of our sidewalks, streets and parks. The goal of this effort is to promote civic participation through feeling ownership of the neighborhood and hope to cultivate new leaders and advocates.
Meetup spot is T4, 1068 Webster. If you're under 18 you will need to bring a parent-signed consent form. We will be able to sign off on volunteer hours.
Shoutout to the organizations that have been participating in PickITup Chinatown:
- Alameda High School LEOS
- Asian Americans for Community Outreach
- Asian Youth Services Committee
- Berkeley City College Lions Club
- BuildOn at Oakland High School
- Chinese Community United Methodist Church
As well as the individual supporters who saw our social media postings and wanted to help.
Special shoutout to the Moon Family (Michael, May and Gavin) who have taken time to coordinate this effort for several months, along with the sponsors:
