Just in case you are watching watching the trees and thinking about
heading out........I went to sail at Windmill Point yesterday. The
Sound was iced over for about 150 - 200 yards!!.....about half way to
the islands..........never seen that before at WP. I was out Friday
and Saturday.....the water was cold but manageable (it was blowing a
gale on Saturday)..........the relentless NW winds must have really
taken the water temps down fast........it could be a while before they
move back up again.

Hi Nick- Bummer about the ice up north! Everything is free and clear
down here. Stuart and I sailed the Buxton Slick yesterday, and it was
definitely super cold, but no ice... Except for on my fingertips,
which were completely frozen after about a half hour!

Are you wearing boots/ gloves? If not you're a beast. I tried the no
boots/ gloves route on New Years Day...........lasted about two
minutes before racing back to the truck to put them on!! Hopefully the
worst of the cold is over......at least the sound water will warm back
up again quickly.

Andy, I've been receiving copies of postings to the obxbeachlife Google
group............but this is the first note I received from you directly to
my email address. Did you received my notes about the boots?..........sounds
like maybe your response got lost in the ether!! I ordered a pair online
last night........I'm sure I'll need other stuff as the season approaches.
