How to Use StuffIt Destinations for Mac to Compress and Share Files

StuffIt Destinations is a software application that allows Mac users to create customized workflows for compressing, encrypting, and sending files. With StuffIt Destinations, you can drag and drop files onto different tiles that represent different actions, such as creating a zip archive, encrypting with a password, uploading to a cloud service, or emailing to a recipient. You can also create your own tiles with custom settings and preferences. StuffIt Destinations supports a wide range of formats, including Zip, RAR, 7z, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, ISO, and more. It also integrates with Finder and Spotlight for easy access and search.

In this article, we will show you how to use StuffIt Destinations for Mac to compress and share files in a few simple steps.

Step 1: Download and Install StuffIt Destinations

You can download a free trial version of StuffIt Destinations from the official website[^1^] or purchase the full version for $49.99. To install StuffIt Destinations, double-click on the downloaded file and follow the instructions on the screen. You may need to enter your administrator password to complete the installation.

Step 2: Launch StuffIt Destinations

To launch StuffIt Destinations, you can either click on its icon in the Dock or Applications folder, or use Spotlight to search for it. When you launch StuffIt Destinations, you will see a window with several tiles that represent different destinations for your files. You can also access StuffIt Destinations from the Finder by right-clicking on a file or folder and choosing "Stuff & Share" from the menu.

Step 3: Choose a Destination for Your Files

To choose a destination for your files, you can either drag and drop them onto one of the tiles in the StuffIt Destinations window, or right-click on them and choose "Stuff & Share" from the menu. You can also select multiple files or folders at once by holding down the Command key while clicking on them. Depending on the destination you choose, you may need to enter some additional information, such as a password, an email address, or a cloud service account.

Some of the destinations that are available by default are:

    • Create Zip Archive: This will create a zip file that can be opened by most compression utilities.
    • Create StuffIt Archive: This will create a sitx file that can be opened by StuffIt Expander[^2^], a free tool that can decompress various formats.
    • Encrypt with Password: This will create an encrypted sitx file that can only be opened with the correct password.
    • Email: This will attach your compressed file to an email message using your default email client.
    • Dropbox: This will upload your compressed file to your Dropbox account and copy the link to your clipboard.
    • Google Drive: This will upload your compressed file to your Google Drive account and copy the link to your clipboard.

Step 4: Create Your Own Destinations

If you want to create your own destinations with custom settings and preferences, you can do so by clicking on the "+" button at the bottom of the StuffIt Destinations window. You can then choose from various options, such as:

      • Name: This will let you name your destination tile.
      • Type: This will let you choose the format of your compressed file.
      • Compression Level: This will let you adjust the trade-off between file size and speed.
      • Encryption: This will let you enable or disable encryption and set a password.
      • Segmentation: This will let you split your compressed file into smaller parts.
      • Action: This will let you choose what to do with your compressed file after compression, such as emailing it, uploading it, or deleting it.

You can also drag and drop existing destinations onto each other to combine them into one tile. For example, you can drag and drop the "Encrypt with Password" tile onto the "Email" tile to create a destination that will encrypt and email your files.

Step 5: Add Comments to Your StuffIt Archives
