The Loaves and Fishes thrift shop in Chatham street, on the border of
Obs and Salt River, serves the poorest people of the two communities and
raises money for Loaves and Fishes. L and F is primarily a secondary
care facility for recovering addicts from the poor communities, and
feeds street and displaced people. The shop sells donated items for a
nominal fee to the disadvantaged.
Donations to the shop have all but dried up since the beginning of 2009
and it is close to shutting its doors. Which would be a blow to its
clientele.
This is an appeal for donations of any items in a good condition. If you
cant deliver items to the shop directly, kindly deliver to me or in the
case of large items call me and i will collect and deliver. (i have a
bakkie).
Clothing,
Books,
Toys
Blankets
Beds/Bedding.
Kitchen utensils
Furniture etc
In fact anything which is in a good condition. (golf clubs, sony play
stations etc have been donated in the past!)
We appeal to you not to donate junk. Its an insult to poor people.

It seems a pity that they are struggling financially because they seem
to be doing a great job. Is it not something the OBSID can help
with? How does it relate to other projects for the homeless in Obs?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've sent a message to various people
suggesting ways of publicising an appeal for donations. Will keep you
posted.
