Last night around 17:15, while sitting in horrendous traffic down Lower Main Road, I saw no fewer than 4 minibus taxis come down side roads from Main Road and try to cut into the already non-moving traffic stream. When this didn't work, or the stream was moving too slowly for their liking, they "overtook" the stream by driving on the wrong side of the road all the way up to Station. As you can imagine this caused quite a few near-collisions with the oncoming traffic.
Unfortunately I was unable to note any details like licence plate numbers. Is there any way we can get a traffic officer to monitor this? I would bet money that the taxis rode the wrong way down a few one ways as well, since they seem to think that traffic laws don't apply to them.
Also, there was a truck going to the mill which had to do several manoeuvres to get into Lower Scott, further exacerbating the traffic problem. Any way way we can ask the mill not to get deliveries in rush hour? While most of the people going down Lower Main are not residents and use it to bypass other slow-moving roads, I actually use it to get home. I eventually had to park my car near the Green Elephant and walk home, after the traffic having taken 30 minutes to move from Rochester to the Community Centre.
Severely pissed off,
Jo
