It is when the law make way for emotions and ALLOW certain violations that it get flaunted by those are in the wrong- allowing a child to urinate in front of SPAR on the pavement is also a violation of law-BUT for some it is cute? Making Obs look more than a circus already!
So let everybody in OBS stick to the rules no matter what, because our crime situation was born from a slackness to act! Crime happen because we allow it to happen- Give them the lowdown on signage and if they flaunt it then act accordingly-
Congratulations on the vast improvement in OBS ! Well done on cleaning and visible policing-

Let me start by saying that I am 100% behind the Circus school and
their push to attract people to their shows. I believe that it's a
wonderful resource for Obs and the wider community.

However, a couple of evenings back I was returning from work along
Liesbeeck pkwy and I almost rear-ended a car that was attempting to
park on the grass verge/pavement outside the circus precint.

I would really like to find out who approved the driveway
construction, because I don't think a proper safety impact analysis
was done with regards to its position. It certainly is in a dangerous
position on what is a busy motorway and can only lead to accidents.
What's wrong with people driving along and either parking in Ossian
road or at the parking lots at the Two Rivers Urban Park?

Jeremy Chames

There is no way that any permission has been sought or granted. I have
just called the circus and left a message for then to call me back.
Not only is the problem a potentially dangerous one, but those signs
are unsightly and far too numerous.

I feel it is better to engage with then first and see what compromises
they are prepared to make - like removal of signs and removal of that
driveway and no parking on that side of the road before taking further
action.

Hi, on another completely different note, do you think the circus school might be interested to get involved in the Observatory Festival....

it might be a nice idea for them to get involved in the street activity as well as areas like the kids park....

does anyone have an email and name and number i can contact them on....

chakan

Chakan,
I am surprised that you as the organizer of the Observatory Festival are
considering contacting the Circus re the festival with only seven weeks
to go?The Circus' potential participation was discussed back in March. I
hope they can accommodate you.
Suggest you Google SA National Circus School or go down to the venue and
meet the management. Their contact details and performance times are
displayed at the site,

I too fully support the work and ethos of the circus.

The proliferation of signs is really getting out of hand. 18 at last count.
Now the have added a big circular one on wheels.
Is OBSID not duty bound to do something about this flagrant violation of
the by -laws regarding signage.
Last time I brought the signage to the attention of Obsid
hierarchy........the response was ...that the sympathy lay with the circus
for their good work and that I should engage with the circus myself if I did
not like the signage.
I find this attitude appalling. Taking action against breaches of
by -laws should be mandatory for OBSID and not at the subjective discretion
of a member of the managment.
As a member of OBSID I formally ask that something be done to get the circus
to bring their signage to comply with the legilation.
I am fully in agreement that the first step be engagement, failing that the
authorities must be requested to take action.
Aside from being illegal ....the signage is an eyesore, especially in an
area that is being upgraded as an urban park.

I have called the circus and they have failed to call me back. I have now lodge a C3 complaint as I believe has the Obsid. Now we have to wait. You could also put in your own complaint at conta...@capetown.gov.za

The Circus signage is under investigation - the correct person in the
city has the relevant information - Brian and I have discussed the
situation and will report back on progress.
